Alfonso Soriano (2B), TEX

- Re-signed
by Michael Rauch - Wed Jan 19
  • News: Soriano and the Rangers avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal worth $7.5 million. The contract represents a $2.1 million salary increase from 2004.

Views: Texas continues to avoid going to arbitration with the signings of Soriano and Gary Matthews Jr. With it being no secret that the Rangers would like to move Soriano, this puts a definite price tag on him. However, Texas has rejected several offers that they felt were below value and would therefore be very willing to go into the 2005 season with Soriano as the starting 2B. If Soriano stays in Arlington, his numbers should only improve over last season. If he gets moved....... who knows?

Yeah, Soriano is one of the best young infielders in the game. I think the Rangers need to keep him, because 7.5 million a year is pretty cheap for a player of his quality. Soriano is a 5-tool player similar to former-Royal Carlos Beltran. I agree with bones however, if the Rangers move him, then it would have to be for some pitching. Hey, who needs Alfonso Soriano when you have Tony Graffanino?

    Go Royals!
