Cole Hamels (SP), Phi - Injury
February 02, 2005
News: Philadelphia pitching prospect Cole Hamels broke his left hand in what the Phillies described as an "altercation" in Florida last weekend. He could be sidelined for three months.
View: Philadelphia area hand specialist Dr. Randall Culp will insert a pin into the fifth metacarpal—the long bone in the palm of the hand that leads to the pinkie finger—of his throwing hand. The pin will be removed about three weeks later, and six weeks later, Hamels will be able to start light throwing.
Details of the "altercation" have not been released as it is still being investigated by Clearwater police.
Hamels was the Phillies' top prospect prior to the 2004 season. That was prior to a bout with bicep tendintis, which limited him to four starts at high Class A Clearwater, where he went 1-0, 1.13 with 24 K in 16 IP. He was going to be invited to MLB spring training and make the jump to Double-A.
Hamels was still listed as the No. 3 Phillie prospect by Baseball America, and remained one of the top LHP and in the top 25 prospects in all of baseball. Now, he will miss a significant portion of a season for the second straight year. Age (21) is still on his side.

I wonder if I should point the owner in my league who has him to this post. He'll read it and panic, I'm sure.....
Damn.
Damn.
Well I was seriously thinking about posting a throw up titled post in the lounge. I am sick of the guy already and he doesnt pitch until tomorrow.
Also, I in no way condone picking him up unless you injury prone or a novice and hurting.
I guess a young gun is always exciting though, no matter where he is?
Agreed, but only if Dunn hits three homers off of him.
And yes, I recognize my perpetuation of this.
I forgot... Cole Hamels is the second coming of Walter Johnson...
NEW YORK (AP) -- Rookie pitcher Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies experienced soreness in the back of his left shoulder while throwing in the outfield Tuesday and was scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday night against the New York Mets.
Hamels will return to Philadelphia on Wednesday for an evaluation. To replace him, the Phillies will start Jon Lieber against the Mets on Wednesday, with Brett Myers going Thursday afternoon.
Hamels has started two games for the Phillies since being called up from Triple-A on May 12. He has no decisions and a 3.18 ERA.
Seriously though, this is a shame. Hamels is an amazing talent. He just seems too much like the second coming of Mark Prior - a talented kid that can't stay healthy.

Gee you sound really genuinely saddened. You basically predicted that the sun would rise this morning.

Did I sense a hint of sarcasm there sir?
Listen, I'm not happy he's on the DL. I kept offering up my opinion on Hamels and his injury past, only to get either shot down or ignored by most people on this board. You were one of the few Hessshaun that didn't get caught up in all the hype. Those that did are now paying for it.
It is what it is.

Yes it was sarcasm. We were the one percent that tried to sway the easily persuaded away.
Cole Hamels is built from the toughest alloy materials. He's so well constrcuted that he never goes on the Disabled Li...uh oh.
