Hee-Seop Choi (1b), BOS - FA Signing (NL to AL)
March 24, 2006
News: The Red Sox claimed former Cubs, Marlins, and Dodgers first baseman Hee-Seop Choi off waivers on Friday. He'll likely enter the season as the backup to Kevin Youkilis for the Red Sox at first.
Views: Sleeper alert? While it's clear that the Sox love Youkilis, he's merely a Choi clone with a lot less power. Either way, it gives the Sox a lot more depth, as they can now play Youkilis back at third base (his original position) a little more often in place of Mike Lowell against some of the tougher right-handers in the league. He's the perfect player to fit into the Red Sox' patient system, and could end up with some fairly significant playing time by year's end.
