Todd Wellemeyer (RP), FLA - Trade
March 28, 2006
News: The Chicago Cubs finally shipped out reliever Todd Wellemeyer Tuesday to Florida for two minor leaguers.
Views: Wellemeyer was out of options and there was no room in the Cubs' bullpen for him. His time with the Cubs showed some promise, but he never seemed to get it together and has been the source of trade rumors for quite a while. In 57 games with Chicago, Wellemeyer was 5-3 with a 6.19 ERA.
The Cubs received in return RHP Lincoln Holdzkom and LHP Zach McCormack. Holdzkom, missed all of 2004 recovering from Tommy John surgery, throws a 93-95 MPH fastball and pitched in nine games with Class A Jupiter last season, having gone 0-1 with a 5.79 ERA and nine K in 9.1 IP. McCormack pitched in 26 games for Class A Greensboro, having gone 4-2 with a 4.61 ERA and 33 K in 41 IP.
