News: Barfield was finally officially anointed the opening day second baseman for the Padres on Tuesday.
Views: This comes as a big shock, doesn't it.... O.K. We all knew that Barfield was going to win the job from day one, but it's nice to hear confirmation from Bruce Bochy. Barfield figures to become a fixture at second in the next few years, and should be ready to produce at a similar level to what Rickie Weeks did in 2005. Down the road, he should develop into a .280 hitter with several 20/20 seasons, making him gold in keeper leagues at such a thin position.
