Rafael Furcal (SS), LAD - Injury
March 29, 2006
News: Furcal was pulled from the Dodgers' game Tuesday with back spasms. He first had trouble with the spasms running from first to third on a single, prompting concern from the dugout. After he convinced Grady Little to leave him in the game, Furcal sprinted for the plate on a wild pitch and dove, re-aggravating the injury.
Views: The best quote of the article (via the L.A. Times) had Jeff Kent, who was batting at the time of the wild pitch leaning down to whisper to Furcal that this was a meaningless Spring Training game. We love to see the hustle, but I'm more apt to agree with Kent's assessment. Furcal is only expected to miss a few days, but this makes me even more weary of recommending him. Furcal, whose main asset as a fantasy player is his base-stealing ability, is coming back from offseason knee surgery as well. We'll monitor the situation for you, and hopefully these back troubles don't plague him all season.
