Fantasy Baseball Player News

Bronson Arroyo (SP), CIN - Alert: LOW
March 30, 2006

News: The Cincinnati Reds' Bronson Arroyo was borderline brilliant (considering it was a spring game, of course) as he pitched seven shutout innings Thursday against his former team, the Boston Red Sox.

Views: Arroyo allowed just three hits and a walk while having struck out nine in his seven innings of work. It was much better than what he did in his Reds debut last week against the Twins (five runs, seven hits, two walks and three strikeouts in five innings). This doesn't mean he's turned things around on a dime, but he's worth watching in very deep leagues once the games start to count.

He showed some spunk out there. Should I pick him up? Don't know who I'd drop....

Umm, probably not today. Some of that spunk was because it was the Red Sox -- hitters that he knew. It wasn't against new hitters in GABP.

Bush is the guy I'd target, but I thought before this performance Bush would definitely have the better season over Arroyo. So I'd stand pat, but if Arroyo does well in his first start or two (or Bush bombs), I would reconsider.

So, no, I wouldn't make that move today.

I would just keep an eye out for him......like Jeff said, he knew the hitters and also Big Papi wasn't in the lineup. So those two things combined pretty much explained his outing to me. So for now, he's just worth a spot on your watch list.

Actually, the first time a pitcher faces a hitter, the pitcher holds the advantage. You would think that at least Jason Varitek, someone who had caught Arroyo something like two weeks ago, should've had his way with the pitcher. I just don't know if he played.
