Jerome Williams (SP), CHC - Alert: LOW
March 31, 2006
News: Forced with the possibility of not making the four-man Opening Day rotation, the Cubs' Jerome Williams went out Thursday and allowed one run on three hits over five innings against Arizona.
Views: BUT -- it didn't matter. In true Dusty Baker style, he awarded the fourth spot to Sean Marshall, who had a good spring. In five appearances (two starts), he has a 0.00 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP (six BB) with nine K in 10.1 IP. He hasn't finished the last two seasons, so it's hard to imagine Marshall remaining in the rotation for the whole season.
Williams will pitch middle relief until the Cubs need a fifth starter on April 15th.
