News: Updating a previous entry about Francisco Cordero being relieved of his closer duties, Otsuka will assume the responsiblity for the foreseeable future.
Views: Otsuka, who closed for four seasons in Japan and also for the Japanese team in the WBC, will get the job on a basically a "temp to hire" basis. How temporary or permanent the situation is, largely depends on how both Otsuka and Cordero perform in their new roles. Cordero will be relegated to middle relief while Antonio Alfonseca will assume setup duties. If Otsuka can handle the job, it's probably his to lose, at least for the reamainder of the season, while Cordero will work on becoming a pitcher, just not with the game on the line.
