Dayton Moore (GM), KC -
May 31, 2006
News: I'm not sure where to put this, so we'll put it with the player updates. Moore officially replaced Allard Baird as the General Manager of the Kansas City Royals Wednesday.
Views: At least David Glass finally put this issue to rest. For weeks, he refused to actually fire Baird and just left him as a dead man walking, showing just how much the Royals' problems go well beyond the General Manager to the ownership of the club. In the interim, the Kansas City Star humanized Baird, discussing how there were countless solid deals that Baird had on the table that were killed by Glass over a couple of hundred thousand dollars. To his credit, Baird refused to discuss any of them, and stayed loyal to the end.
Throughout Baird's tenure, I was probably one of his bigger critics, though I had the feeling that Glass was more than just partially at fault. The way this situation has been handled, I fear that Glass was almost completely to blame for ruining what was once a proud franchise. Here's to hoping that Moore has a little better luck convincing ownership to back him.
As for Moore, he's nearly a perfect hire here. Moore is recognized around the league as someone who has been critical under John Schuerholz (who happened to be Kansas City's GM back in the glory days of the 1980's) in leading the Atlanta Braves to prominence. Given some support from ownership, he's more than capable of righting this ship, though it's likely to take some time and patience.
I truly think great things are to come for us devout KC Royals FANS!

As FIC's spelling correcter, it's new. Not knew Devon, that's -10 pts. from your reputation, going to a lowly -1,000,000.
