News: Kubel batted leadoff for the second straight game Tuesday, though he's batting just .143 with an OBP under .200 on the year. He also got his first hit since being recalled from Rochester on May 23, a home run to straightaway center.
Views: While there are more than a handful of rookies in both leagues having tremendous seasons, Kubel's ceiling may be higher than any of them. All he needs are regular, consistent at bats. The problem is that they haven't been coming. He's played so sporadically in a crowded (though not really that talented) outfield that he almost looks like he's in there for a pinch-hit appearance every time he walks to the plate. Let's see how long this leadoff experiment continues.... he's been on base for the hitter in the two-hole exactly zero times in seven chances.
