Todd Coffey (CL), CIN - Alert: HI
May 31, 2006

News: In an expected move, Reds manager Jerry Narron said that Todd Coffey would become the team's closer following Coffey having earned his second save of the season in the Reds' 3-2 win over the Cubs.

Views: Coffey retired all four hitters he faced Wednesday to close out the game. In limited save opportunities, Coffey has gotten the call two out of the last three times. He has been the sharper pitcher compared to David Weathers and, barring a major setback, Coffey should remain as closer the rest of the season.

Well this is just terrible news for me as I just dropped him yesterday!!! Picked up M. Gonzalez so got another closer at least but couldn't of this been one day sooner! Well guess I will see if I can pick him back up off waivers before other managers catch wind of this news.

I'm due for some bad news/injury soon. In the past few days I read Harden/Prior will be back in 2 weeks (harden Sunday!) Clemens signs, Coffey named the closer.

Is this a definite? I mean the manager said yes but if he screws up would they switch back to Weathers? I guess I might pick him up for DOH!!! team but I dunno who to drop.

Well, yes, if he screws up majorly, he would be out of the role -- Brad Lidge lost his job for a little while. So, there aren't any certainities out there.

Weathers has lost favor with Narron, so Coffey's the only other viable alternative -- Matt Belisle recently went on the DL and all the other relievers on staff have an ERA of at least 5.50.

Awesome. Who should I drop to add him? It's the first link in my profile called "Team DOH!!!". Any ideas? I'm leaning towards Hamels since I have Clemens coming to start in which I'll have 6 Starters
