Anthony Reyes (SP), STL

Fantasy Baseball Player News

Anthony Reyes (SP), STL - Alert: HI
June 23, 2006

News: Reyes continues to prove that he's got a bigtime future in St. Louis' rotation. Reyes was the hard-luck loser in the Cardinals' 1-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox Thursday, and made just one mistake. That mistake was a fastball that caught way too much of the plate against Jim Thome that was quickly deposited in the stands in right center. That would be the only hit that Reyes would allow, and he struck out six against no walks. The only other batter to reach on the night was Jermaine Dye, who reached on a three-base error by center fielder So Taguchi.

Views: As if the Cardinals need any more reason to keep Reyes up for good, he just faced a team that "ace" Mark Mulder and proven starter Jason Marquis (each of whom were in the Redbirds' playoff rotation last season) got smoked for 22 runs in 7.1 innings against the past two nights. I can just picture Dave Littlefield picking up the phone to try offering Craig Wilson for him again..........

This is an extraordinary year for rookies...so far. I firmly believe several will drop off their current pace. Reyes is the latest of the super rooks this year. Can't wait to see the ROY debating.

What? Why are you talking about Verlander?

How much of the year does everyone think Reyes is going to play the rest of the year. I have a few thoughts about it and they are for 1 Mark Mulder makes a ton of money to much to sit on the bench. Reyes is the future of Cardinals, but as of right now I think he is just going to get a little taste. All this will depend on if Mulder even comes back.

With Reyes proving himself, is it possible now that either Mulder or Marquis goes at the trade deadline? I am thinking so.

There are 2 ROY AL AND NL

If Reyes keeps this up he, he will win NL ROY

I dont think that Verlander will win AL because of Papelbon

If Mulder's shoulder problems aren't *THAT* terrible--absolutely. All of Mulder/Marquis/Suppan could be had in a trade, but they're also all in contract years which means that the Cardinals probably can't get full value on any of them either.

It'll be interesting to see which of those three get offered arbitration next year by the Birds. Mulder was a slam dunk until he got hurt. My guess is that if all three are around at the end of the year, Marquis & Suppan get offered arb. but Mulder doesn't.

Anthony Reyes has 20.0 IP and you're calling him the ROY? Come on, give Uggla, Ramirez, Fielder and Zimmerman some credit, they've done it all year.

Reyes is no where near rookie of the year.
