Jose Reyes (SS), NYM - Hot
June 25, 2006
News: Reyes continued his torrid June Saturday, going 4-for-5 with a triple and a stolen base in the Mets' 7-4 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. This was Reyes' third four-hit game during his current twelve game hit streak (which included his cycle Wednesday night), which has included ten multi-hit games. Over the course of the streak, Reyes has raised his batting average from .246 to .294, and he's currently pushing a .360 OBP.
Views: Despite all of this recent hot streak activity and what it's done to his average and OBP, the most important thing about Reyes is that he's already matched last season's home run total and is slugging over .480 at this point in the season. He's truly emerging into one of the biggest five-tool superstars in the league at a very thin position, and is clearly the top SS in the National League right now (he may still have a little work to do catching Miguel Tejada and Michael Young in the AL). Needless to say, I'm kicking myself for dealing him in a keeper league earlier this season........
