News: It took a few more weeks than the Pirates would have liked, but Wells is heating up before the trade deadline. Wells tossed seven innings of shutout ball to earn his first victory of the year in Friday's 3-0 win over the San Francisco Giants.
Views: Ignore the win-loss record and look at what he's done in his last three starts (at least that's what Dave Littlefield is whispering in the ears of a handful of GMs as I write this....). Wells has allowed just four runs in his past 19.2 innings of work, and could be a valuable addition to a contender in need of pitching at the deadline. Expect someone to ante up, as he'll likely still come pretty cheap.
