Bobby Abreu (OF), NYY - Trade (NL to AL)
July 30, 2006
News: Abreu was traded to the Yankees along with Corey Lidle for a handful of prospects, including New York's top pick in 2005, C.J. Henry.
Views: The assumption here would be that the Phils plan on moving Henry to third, as they have Jimmy Rollins locked up at SS for a while. His ETA is still some time late next season at the earliest. The Phils probably would have been better off in the short-term had they been able to poach Eric Duncan.
As for Abreu, it's difficult not to love what this does to his fantasy value. He'll head to the Bronx, where his new home park is noted for its short right-field porch. Throw in the fact that he'll join a stacked lineup, and he should see plenty of pitches to hit.
Speaking of seeing plenty of pitches to hit, that's one of his specialties, which should help the entire lineup around him. Abreu has a long history of running pitchers into deep counts, and will probably help the vaunted Yankee lineup face their opponents' bullpens a little bit earlier in the games.
