Jorge Sosa (P), STL

Fantasy Baseball Player News

Jorge Sosa (P), STL - Trade
July 31, 2006

News: Sosa was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for minor league pitcher Rich Scalamandre.

Views: Ho-hum. Sosa will add bullpen depth, but won't be much of a factor the rest of the way.

Actually, I disagree. The Cards bullpen lacks a flame thrower and if Dave Duncan can work his magic it will be a very good acquisition. We basically gave up nothing, so if it doesn't work out no loss no harm.

I agree. Big upgrade for the Cards. Their real battle is and will be getting from turning the game over to the pen with a lead to a win. And in the playoffs especially, Sosa will be able to help.

Here's what scares me about it though...

The Cards have the rights to Sosa for the next two years. Are they really thinking next year of having a rotation of:

Carpenter
Reyes
Wainwright
???
Sosa?

For Cards fans, I would hope not. But, I'm a Brewers fan, so I hope so

The Cardinals are smarter than I am. If they think Sosa grows enough to be in the rotation then he'll be there. If not, then they'll go out and get somebody. I don't think he'll be in the rotation next year, but I think he can be instrumental in the bullpen.

Jorge Sosa has the ability to pitch out of the bullpen and be a very strong arm. I have faith in him because I have faith in Dave Duncan.

He looked good last night. Maybe he needed a change of scenery.

I really do think he makes a big impact out of the bullpen for the Cards.

I'm not afraid to say someone on the Cards sucks, though. *cough* Aaron Miles *cough*
