Fantasy Baseball Player News

Carlos Guillen (SS), DET - Alert: LOW
August 02, 2006

News: Guillen became the second player to hit for the cycle in just over a week in Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He went 4-for-5 on the night with 3 runs and 2 RBI.

Views: While it seems like half the Tigers team (particularly the pitching staff) has received a lot of media attention, Guillen has been the one guy on the whole team who has put together a terrific season quietly. Guillen's third-inning homer was his thirteenth of the year, and he's looking like he's going to challenge the power production he put forth two years ago. Toss in a .300 average, a little speed, and the ability to hit sixth in a powerful lineup, and it's no wonder that he's about to destroy the myth that 2004 was a career year.

Who was the other player to hit for the cycle recently?

We also forgot to mention that last nights win tied their win total of all season last year.

But yes, Guillen has had a solid season along with Polanco, Mags, Thames, Monroe, etc. Our pitching staff has been great (except lately..Rogers, Robertson blowing up), and I am glad that I can finally say that for one year of my life the Tigers aren't the laughing stock of baseball.

Now that you said that, the Tigers are going to lose every single game for the remainder of the season.

no one is mentioning that guillen didn't get the cycle easily. he needed a double. in his last at bat he hit what looked like a single to right-center, as soon as he hit it he challenged the throw (which should have got him) and the fielder ended up dropping it. I love his hustle, it was fun to watch as well.

I hope so, I am tired of being called a bandwagoner even though I have been a Tigers fan since I was born.

The Tigers were never a laughing stock the way I see it. Anyone who has a good understanding of the game saw that they've been rebuilding, albeit for quite some time. Their history as a competitive and winning team is something to be proud of.

The 2003 Tigers challenged the Mets modern record of one-hundred twenty losses and came up one short (43-119).

They were a laughing stock.

when was the last time the tigers had an all star caliber player? they were the laughing stock, but now...they have rebuilt and the best way to rebuild is with young arms. they should be good for years to come.

Best young pitching staff I've seen since the A's a few years back (Hudson, Mulder, Zito, Harden).

Verlander, Robertson, Bonderman, Miner, Zumaya... Sprinkle in the All-Star starter this year in Kenny Rogers (who has sucked of late). That's an awesome staff for a number of years, if they can hang on to them.

Tigers can win it all this year.
