News: Varitek will be sidelined for a while with a partial tear in his left meniscus. Varitek injured himself running the bases in Tuesday's 9-8 win over the Cleveland Indians.
Views: The bad news for Red Sox fans is that he's going under the knife. While nobody's said season-ending surgery yet, it's certainly a possibility. The assumption is that he'll be sidelined for at least 4-6 weeks. Varitek has been disappointing in fantasy circles this season, but you hate to see this happen to anyone. Doug Mirabelli will assume the role as the starter.
