Bartolo Colon (SP), LAA - Alert: MED
April 15, 2007
News: Colon made his third minor league rehab start today, pitching 7 scoreless innings for Salt Lake, the Angels' AAA affiliate. He allowed 3 hits and walked 1 batter, while striking out 3 in the process.
Views: Colon's fastball was still hitting the mid-90's in the 7th inning. Colon was expected to come off the DL to make his first start of the season for LA on Friday at home against Seattle, but that could change depending on if the Angels suffer another postponement due to weather in Boston. Either way, Colon should make his first start sometime next weekend.
Another trip to the DL.
As far as Colon, it's tough to know what to expect, coming off a poor season and a major surgery, but I don't see why he can't put up decent numbers if he stays healthy.
By decent I'm thinking around 15 wins and a 4.00 ERA, not top notch fantasy numbers, but not bad for a 3rd or 4th starter. With the Angels' bullpen rarely blowing his decisions, and a shred of run support he's fully capable of approaching 20 wins again. But, I think there should definitely be some regression from his Cy Young season a few years ago. Based on how he's looked in the minors 150 K's is also conceivable.
A steal for someone drafted in the 19th-21st rounds!
