Jason Schmidt (SP), SF - DL
April 17, 2007
News: Schmidt was placed on the disabled list with discomfort in his pitching shoulder Tuesday.
Views: It's more than just the discomfort. Schmidt originally went to have an MRI done to see if they could figure out exactly what it is that's sapping his velocity. Schmidt, who consistently threw in the mid-nineties during his peak years, has had trouble throwing the ball over 85 MPH consistently. He touched 90 just once in his last start, generally throwing his fastball in the 82-85 MPH range. The results were, as expected, Schmidt basically throwing batting practice to the Padres. For both his owners' sakes and the Dodgers' (who have a troubling recent history in this area... anybody remember Darren Dreifort? They just signed Schmidt to a huge offseason deal) sakes, let's hope that Schmidt can get this sorted out. There's no timetable set for his return, and the results of the MRI should be back on Wednesday.
