Rich Harden (SP), OAK - Update
April 18, 2007

News: Harden underwent an MRI which came back showing no damage in his pitching arm. Harden is scheduled to pitch Saturday in Arlington, but will likely see his start pushed back a few days as a precautionary measure.

Views: Harden was forced to leave the game in the 7th inning during his April 15th start against the Yankees with shoulder tightness. For now it appears to be nothing serious, but it is cause for concern as to whether or not the injury-prone starter will remain healthy down the road. In 19 innings this season he's allowed just 3 earned runs and struck out 20 batters.

Most reports have him slated to pitch Tuesday, April 24th instead of Saturday. He'll be doing some throwing in the next few days and after he does there will be a better idea of when he's expected to make his next appearance, for now the weekend is out of the picture though...

From the Yahoo update:

Quote:
"It's hard to judge until he throws a ball," pitching coach Curt Young said. "The best scenario is he can pitch on the 24th. Especially looking in any pitcher's shoulder, I'm surprised they didn't find anything."

Even his pitching coach knows in his gut that Harden is injured again.

Well, it's generally a shock when a pitcher shows a lot of discomfort and is forced out of a game, and then an MRI comes up with no kinks. Personally, I do think this whole thing is a precursor to an injury in the near future, and like the pitching coach said it's tough to judge anything until he tosses the ball.

Sigh, he is the AL's Mark Prior.

Double sigh
