Fernando Cabrera (RP), CLE - Hot
April 25, 2007
News: Cabrera threw two scoreless innings Wednesday for his first win of the season. He struck out five as he ran his scoreless streak to 10.2 innings to start the year.
Views: The fact that this guy has absolutely no leverage role (closing or setup) at this point just baffles me. Heading into last season, he was their closer of the future. After a down year, he came to camp expected to work in middle relief and possibly work his way into a leverage role down the line. He's struck out fifteen batters and allowed just seven baserunners to this point. With closer Joe Borowski looking terrible for the Tribe, you would think that it might be time to give either Cabrera or Rafael Betancourt a look. At the very least, it would make sense for the Indians to start getting Cabrera into a few more games.
At this point, it's time to start thinking Cabrera has value even in standard mixed leagues as a bullpen option who should work his way into a leverage role and give you terrific strikeout and secondary numbers to help make up for some bad outings from your starters. Go get him!
