Michael Barrett (C), SD - Trade
June 20, 2007
News: ESPN's Buster Olney and the San Diego Tribune are reporting that the Chicago Cubs have traded Michael Barrett to San Diego for catcher Rob Bowen, minor-league outfielder Kyler Burke and cash.
Views: This was a salary and frustration dump for the Cubs as Barrett is a free agent this off-season. Barrett's hotheadedness was relished while he hit the ball and played decent defense. Two highly-publicized fights with teammates, weak hitting, worsening defense and the play of Koyie Hill made Barrett easily expendable.
This move improves Hill's value, and hurts Barrett's and San Diego's Josh Bard's value. Barrett moves to pitcher-friendly Petco Park, and Bard's playing time will be greatly reduced.
Bowen must have caught the Cubs' eye this week during the Pads' series. In a recent start June 17 against the Cubs, Bowen went 2-for-4 with a home run. Bowen is hitting .268 with two home runs and 11 RBI.
Burke was batting .211 with one home run in 213 at-bats with the Padres' Single-A team in Fort Wayne.
So Bard gets completely screwed over in this deal. I hope it's not a 2-headed catcher team.
Looks like I was wrong.

I interpreted it the other way around but alright. Zambrano is a free agent next year and as far as I know Yadi is not.

Yeah, I agree with DHCF. I thought that Zambrano was going to Birds not Molina going to the Cubs.

considering the shin guards were red I'd have to assume the same thing.
That just about guarantees he won't be a Cardinal.
