I'm back for another go at running our weekly ranking updates this season, and I've learned a thing or two in the process. While our X Factor system failed last season, it became more and more clear to me that we needed something beyond the simple plugging in of the current season's statistics for the rankings to show potential future value. For this reason, though I've scrapped the X Factor, we're bringing something else into play.
That something else is a player's performance based on last season's numbers. Each week, we'll run every player's statistics through our database to create their "Current Overall Value", or their production to this point extrapolated to create their pace for this season. We'll then combine that with their previous year's production to establish the player's all-around score. "But, wait," you ask, "shouldn't this season's numbers count more than last year's?" Fear not, loyal readers... they do!
Note: All players eligible at multiple positions have been graded out at each position that they qualify for. In order to determine their position in the Top 250 Hitters, the highest overall value that they had was used.
