Polanco Out of Philadelphia in Three-Player Trade
June 08, 2005
The Philadelphia Phillies have sent utilityman Placido Polanco to the Detroit Tigers. Polanco has experience playing at both second base and third base. In return for Polanco, the Detroit Tigers have agreed to send RP Ugueth Urbina and SS Ramon Martinez to the Phillies.
Through the first 43 games of the season, Polanco posted a batting average of .316 (on pace for the best of his career), an on base percentage of .376, 3 homers, 50 hits and 20 RBI - all solid numbers for Polanco. For more on Placido Polanco, click here.
Urbina helped the Marlins win the World Series two years ago and has pitched in 25 games this year, for a total of 27.1 innings. He has a 1-3 record with nine saves, an ERA of 2.63, and a WHIP of 1.28. In addition, he has not allowed a run in his last 10 innings. The Phillies plan to use Urbina as a setup man for Billy Wagner, or as a closer when Wagner needs some time off. For more on Urbina, click here.
Ramon Martinez has only appeared in 19 games this year, and has a batting average of .268. In 56 at bats, Martinez has 15 hits, a double, 4 strikeouts, and 5 RBI.
