Week in Review:

The Brewers were lucky to get out of Milwaukee taking taking three of four from the Houston Astros including a nail biting fourteen inning affair, in which Glendon Rusch got the Game Winning pinch-hit base hit on a bunt that went over everyone's head in the center of the Astros Infield. Geoff Jenkins continued his hot hitting and Scott Podsednik joined the club in having a heck of a series. The Brewers left Milwaukee on the road for the humid weather in South Florida to meet the Marlins. A heart breaking sweet awaited as the Brewers made mistakes to Ivan Rodriguez and Juan Pierre, including Eric Young showing the temporary inability to receive a throw at second to nail potential base stealers.

With the sweep out of the way, the Brewers made their trip north to Atlanta for a three game series at Turner Field. Last night, the Brewers offense exploded in a 12-5 win in the first game of the series, particularly two people. John Vander Wal started 3-3, hitting a two-run homerun, grand slam, and a double. He had six RBI's on the night, a career high. Richie Sexson was the other man starting 4-4 with a three-run homerun, 2 solo homeruns, and a double. He set the Brewers franchise record for total bases in a game with 14. The current record was held by Paul Molitor who had 13 total bases on May 12th, 1982 against Kansas City.

The Week Ahead:

26th-27th: @ Atlanta
29th-1st: vs. Montreal

Local Perspective (Reporter's Take):

Are the Milwaukee Brewers really showing an effort to win, or are they playing with luck? This is the question was the most recent one, that fans ponder with. Is it worth going out to Miller Park, and watching anymore? Just because the Milwaukee Brewers have looked like they are showing an effort, is it temporary or permanent?

“Milwaukee is trying to do it!” says one fan that stays with the franchise no matter what their record may be. “I’m trying to find a good reason to stay with the team, but other than being a Brewer fan my whole life, I don’t think I can find a reason”, he says. “Milwaukee and all of Wisconsin don’t appreciate having a Major League Baseball team in their backyard! They just don’t appreciate baseball when they see it, and I’m getting sick of these people telling me they would rather watch Triple A Baseball. I just tell those fools, GO WATCH IT, THEN!” These words from a Brewers fan who believes in staying with the team. He expressed his hate for the people who will “undoubtedly jump on the bandwagon when the Brewers get good” and it looks like, this could possibly be happening now!

How many people will become Brewers fans when/if they get good? Imagine being a huge Milwaukee Brewers fan, you’ve been with them for years, no matter how horrible they were. Don’t say that you won’t be angry when you hear a drunk slob say “I knew they’d get good, I never left them!” and you come to the realization that you saw him last year saying “These guys suck! Take them out of Milwaukee!”

Credit should be given to Milwaukee for staying with the team, and acknowledging their true effort lately. The Milwaukee Brewers will become good one day, it almost looks like they are that way now, only being 5 games out of .500. The day they become a good team, you can pat yourself on the back , because you were the true reason for their effort. If you aren’t a True Brew Crew fan, then become one now, because you’ll be sorry when they kick your team’s ass!

As always, my fellow Brewers advocates, feel free to E-Mail me with any questions, comments, ideas or concerns! Jacobson_John5919@MSN.com As always, once a Brewers fan, always a Brewer fan, until next time, I bid you ado.

Player of the Week:

Richmond Lockwood Sexson

L. 7 Days: .407 7R 3HR 7RBI 24TB

Richie is off and running this season leading a potent Brewers offense that has had contributions from unlikely places. Richie ranks third in the NL with 8 blasts this season. The only worry about him is that he is striking out once again, in 92 AB's he has struckout 20 times meaning that he is striking out 21.7% of the time. He has shown the inability to lay off the high fastball. Last night in Atlanta, Richie locked in, most of the numbers for the last seven days that made him the "player of the week" were gained by going 4-5 with three homers and 5 RBIs.

Brewers Trivia:

When was the last time the Brewers hit back-to-back-to-back homeruns? Who hit them? Where?

E-mail your answers to me at bucksbeat@aol.com along with any questions/comments you might have on the Brewers. The trivia question will be worth 10 sports points on the FIC Forum.
