The Brewers have already guaranteed themselves of a tenth straight losing season. Coming into the season I think that this was the stat that the Brewers desperately wanted to avoid. Leading the league in strikeouts again wouldn't have been that bad, just as long as the Brewers were at or over .500 by season's end. But, as the Brewers improved in one aspect (strikeouts) they avoided improving in the one that really matters, (winning).
The Brewers most reason series ended Thursday August 29th, you know the day before the August 30th strike date. Anyways, the Brewers ended their previous series by splitting a four game series with the Chicago Cubs. No matter how bad the team has done, they have all stuck together through these trying times. In the bottom of the eigth of the forth game of the Cubs series, such a thing impossible to do. After the third out was made in the 8th and televisions went to commercial the fans at Miller Park got news that a piece of the team was leaving. Throughout the stadium it was announced that Jamey Wright (A Brewer since 1999) had been traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for speedy minor league outfielder Chris Morris and a player to be named later. At the time, Wright was in the dugout with his already ex-teammates. He was surprised as anybody in the stadium. After the third out was made in the ninth, each Brewer said goodbye to Jamey. Jamey is going to a contender but, it had to be hard to hear about it when he did.
To fill Jamey Wright place, in his rotation spot (tomorrow) the Brewers called up RHP Nelson Figueroa (1-5, 5.08ERA) from AAA Indianapolis. Barring a strike the right hander will go against Ryan Dempster (7-13, 5.59ERA) as the Brewers open a series in Cincinatti.
Local Perspective:
Building for the future. That has to be the line that keeps Brewer fans, Brewer fans. During the last 10 years NO Milwaukee Brewer team has had a winning record. The trade that occured Thursday involving Jamey Wright shows that the Brewers are not building for NOW. They are building for later. Jamey Wright an accomplished sinker-baller gets traded for a Class A Outfielder and a player to be named later. This trade just shows at what point the Brewers franchise is.
Rumor Mill:
The Brewers are working hard to get rid of all their last year players. Nearly everyone that has a contract in it's final year is gone. The next just might be OF Matt Stairs. The underperforming Stairs most likely will be shipped off when Geoff Jenkins gets off of the DL.
8/17: Option RHP Ruben Quevedo to Class AAA Indianapolis.
8/24: Activated C Raul Casanova from 15-day DL.
Designated OF Izzy Alcantara for assignment
8/25: Purchased the contract of LHP Shane Nance from AAA Indianapolis
Designated C Raul Casanova for assignment.
Injuries:
OF Geoffrey Jenkins
Dislocated Right Ankle
15-Day DL
Still No news on his return
Down on the Farm:
No news from down on the farm.
Player of the Month:
JOSE HERNANDEZ

2002: .288 23HR 61RBI
L. 30 Days: .293 3HR 9RBI
Jose has been hot as of late. He still swings and misses at a consistent basis but, he has been getting on base for the bottom of the order whenever he is asked to.
Quick View:
Keep:
1B Richie Sexson: .283 28HR 92RBI. He is in a slump but, he is still a great player. With these numbers DON'T drop him.
SS Jose Hernandez: .288 23HR 61RBI. Unless you hate strikeouts, keep him in your lineup. He may not be a Brewer for long but, he produces.
OF Alexis Sanchez: .289 0HR 30RBI 36SB. Keep him for his speed if anthing. Coming into the final month of the season he will try to get 50 SB.
