After a seven game losing streak that lasted through Colorado and St. Louis series, the Diamondbacks got a huge win on Thursday when Randy Johnson pitched his biggest game of the year and secured the Cy Young award. One of the major problems when we were losing was the offense and injuries but on Thursday the offense came through and it looks like we will be playing well for the playoffs. Brian Anderson: Just went down with a broken foot out for the year.
Miguel Batista: Will likely be the third starter during the playoffs but hasn’t been that good during the regular season.
Rick Helling: As the season progressed he got better but was never great.
Randy Johnson: 24 wins over 300 strikeouts? Will win his 4th consecutive Cy Young award. First Ballot Hall of Famer
Byung-Hyun Kim: He is the closer but will Matt Mantei back he says that he would like to be a starter next year.
Curt Schilling: If it wasn’t for Randy Johnson Curt would win the Cy Young award. They are a one, two punch like baseball has never seen.
Rod Barajas: Has been getting lots of playing time lately but can’t hit to save his life. Miguel Batista’s personal catcher.
Damian Miller: Not playing as much because Barajas is catching for Batista and Moller catching for Randy Johnson. When he plays he is one of the better catcher in the league.
Jay Bell: Doesn’t play hardly at all.
Greg Colbrunn: Red Hot right now. Hit for the cycle with 2 home runs in one game. Getting Hot at the right time.
Craig Counsell: Out for the year.
Chris Donnels: Plays occasionally but not enough to have.
Erubiel Durazo: Expectations are high. Hopefully will live up to expansions.
Mark Grace: With Durazo back he will not be playing everyday.
Junior Spivey: Amazing breakout year. Will be a force for years to come.
Matt Williams: with Counsell out he is playing every day.
Tony Womack: A player who steps up during the playoffs.
Danny Bautista: Out for the Year
Steve Finley: Has been hitting well. Worth having as a bench player.
Luis Gonzalez: Level 3 separated shoulder out for the year.
Injuries: Luis Gonzalez out for the year. Danny Bautista out for the year. Craig Counsell out for the year. Todd Stottlemyre out for his Career.
Local Perspective: after a seven game road losing streak you would expect not that many people to show up for a home game, but it was sold out. The state of Arizona is behind the diamondbacks and everyone is very, very excited for the playoffs. Arizona will go crazy if the Diamondbacks go even close to deep in the playoffs.
Rumors. Bob Melvin (DBacks bench coach) looks like he will be the Manager in Milwaukee next year.
