Lead Correspondent Report

Latest Player Info:

Brian Anderson: If the Diamondbacks go out and trade for another starting pitcher then Anderson will be the first to go back to the bullpen.

Miguel Batista: He says that he has found a flaw in his form and it appears that whatever he did to fix it is going well. Watch him for a few more starts and if he continues to pitch like an ace go ahead and pick him up.

Rick Helling: He is looking better then he did at the beginning of the year but not good enough to have on your team; he still has a little way to go to convince me.

Randy Johnson: He missed the all-star game this year citing family as the reason; in reality it appears that he really missed it because of his back problem that has been bothering him this year. If you can, trade him now while his value is high. I think he will make it through the season but I think that Curt Schilling would be a better choice for your team.

Byung-Hyun Kim: He is looking good right now and Mantei might not have a job when he gets back. There is still a question of who will close though, So I would trade him for another high end closer right now.

Mike Myers: If your league counts holds as a stat, grab Myers.

Curt Schilling: He had a 2 game losing streak but seems to have fully recovered now. If you can get him in a trade right now I would do it. Looks like he might be getting a Cy Young Award this year.

Todd Stottlemyre: Back on the DL; drop him.

Rod Barajas: Has yet to put up good numbers. Also it should be noted that Barajas has turned into Miguel Batista’s personal catcher; he only plays every 5 or 6 days.

Damian Miller: He will hurt you in AVG. but most catchers will. Helps in HR’s and RBI’s. Doesn’t catch for Miguel Batista.

Jay Bell: I don’t think he will get his job back. Don’t waste a DL spot on him in hope that when gets back he will play.

Greg Colbrunn: He is great when he plays, But the Diamondbacks have the ideal situation at 1B so don’t count on him playing much.

Craig Counsell: He has established him self at 3B both defensively and offensively. If you are in a deep league go ahead and pick him up.

Chris Donnels: Plays occasionally but not enough to have.

Erubiel Durazo: Durazo is in the middle of most trade rumors right now and isn’t playing well enough to have.

Mark Grace: With Durazo back he will not be playing everyday. But if Durazo gets traded Grace could be a good sleeper pick up. Also he has a broken toe but I don’t believe it is serious.

Junior Spivey: Was on the DL for a while but seems to be back in full force going 10-28 since coming back. If someone in your leagued dropped him when he went on the DL pick him up.

Matt Williams: See Jay Bell.

Tony Womack: If you need steals go ahead and grab him if not leave him alone.

Danny Bautista: He is out for the year.

Steve Finley: Has been hitting well. Worth having as a bench player or a 5th OF.

Luis Gonzalez: His HR’s and RBI’s and AVG are very good. He is very underrated in most leagues see if you can trade for him cheap.

Jose Guillien: He is taking a back seat with Quinton McCracken playing so well. Simply put, he isn’t getting much playing time.

Quinton McCracken: McCracken is getting most of the playing time even though he is in a mini slump. If you need a sleeper outfielder in a large league McCracken maybe the answer.

Injuries:

Matt Mantei 60 day DL - recovering from Tommy John surgery he is pitching well in AA El Paso
Armando Reynoso 60 day DL - recovering from neck surgery
Matt Williams 60 day DL - broken hip
Jay Bell - in the middle of a rehab assignment in AAA Tucson
Danny Bautista - out for the year
Todd Stottlemyre - on the DL because of arm trouble
Mark Grace - broke his toe; the extent of the injury isn’t known

Local Perspective:

I can’t comment on the Local Perspective right now because I am currently in Canada, but if you are in Arizona and would like to help me out e-mail me at nate_meeds@hotmail.com

Rumors:

I would bet my paycheck that Durazo will be traded this year. Logical places are the Marlins for Brad. The A’s for Cory Lidle. The Braves for a Pitcher. The Indians for Chuck Finley and/or Jim Thome. The royals for Paul Byrd. The Expos for Tony Armas Jr. any of the above are more then possible one will likely happen.

Add:
Junior Spivey: Add him and stick him on your DL, then when he comes back start him. Before the injury he was putting up great stats and I expect him to continue to do that when he comes back. He has my vote for sleeper of the year.
Damian Miller: He is really hitting the ball well right now. If you look at his stats he’s HR’s and RBI’s are amazing and I think he AVG will start to rise soon. With catcher being such a hard spot to fill Miller is a great player to have on your team.

Quick-View:

Drop
Jay Bell: don’t count on him getting his job back.
Matt Williams see Jay Bell.
Todd Stottlemyre This injury could be the end of the line for Todd

Hold:
Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling and Luis Gonzalez (do I really have to explain?)
Damain Miller: a good starter for any fantasy team.
Junior Spivey: you will likely get some trade offers for him but I would hold on to him.

Trade:
Erubiel Durazo: Even though his value isn’t that high if you don’t need him trade him.
Steve Finley: he is hot right now and I don’t know how long it will last. Trade him when his value is high.
