Diamondbacks Correspondent Report
July 29, 2003

Team News
After a extended winning streak before the all-star break the diamondbacks have cooled off losing 8 of their last 12 games. You cannot blame the pitching though because over those twelve game the team ERA has been under 2.00. The lack of offense has prompted some changes. On Tuesday the Diamondbacks sent David Dellucci,Bret Prinz and a minor leaguer: Jon Mark Sprowl to the Yankees in exchange for Raul Mondesi and 2 Million dollars. Mondesi is in the final year of his 13 Million dollar salary and is expected to retire at the end of the year. Earlier the Diamondbacks sent Lyle Overbay to AAA Tucson because of his lack of power and clutch hitting, Shea Hillenbrand is getting the majority of the playing time at first base, Craig Counsell has taken over third. Another trade was the sending of Tony Womack to Colorado for pitcher Mike Watson. The main reason behind this trade was dumping Womack's salary and creating room and playing time for Alex Cintron and Matt Kata.

Injuries
The Diamondbacks have almost fully recovered from the injury bug. The only player remaining hurt is Mike Koplove and he is expected to start rehab soon. All the other players have been showing no ill signs of their injury's

Rumor Room
The Diamondbacks were not expected to make any trades, So the Mondesi deal caught some people off guard. The team now believes that it has all the peices in place for a pennant run and is not expected to make any other moves.
