LATEST TEAM INFO:
The Expos have made another major trade as they sent Graeme Lloyd, Carl Pavano, Mike Mordecai, and minor leaguer Justin Wayne to the Florida Marlins for power hitting left fielder Cliff Floyd. Floyd was one of the Expos' most popular players when he in Montreal before and the fans are glad to have him back. He should provide some much need support for Jose Vidro and Vladimir Guerrero. I look forward to watching this team throughout the summer.
Another major thing surrounding the Expos is that the former minority owners are suing former majority owner Jeffery Loria and MLB commishoner Bud Selig for a number of things to the tune of over $100 million. Not only that but they are accusing the pair of committing fraud and conspiring to sabotage the Expos franchise. This is a major development in the whole saga. If the judge in Miami decides to take this case, the Expos could very well stay in Montreal for quite some time. There are also rumours that some sort of anti-contraction legislation could be passed.
LOCAL PERSPECTIVE:
The fans are starting to come out to the park again as a 4 game series last weekend against the Atlanta Braves drew over 60,000 fans. Now that may not seem like a lot but it's a step in the right direction for the club and for the fans.
RUMOR MILL:
The Expos deparately need a closer and are reportedly looking around for one. They have been blowing a lot of late inning leads lately and need some help in the bullpen. Matt Herges, T.J. Tucker and Scott Stewart have not been getting the job done so look for the Expos to make a move, probably not for a big name closer, but just for an upgrade from what they have right now.
INJURIES:
Nothing major to report. The Expos have been pretty healthy all season. Let's hope the trend continues.
QUICK VIEW:
Add:
3B - Fernando Tatis - Has been hitting for some power lately and could be returning to his past form.
Drop:
SS - Orlando Cabrera - Is not having a great season at the plate and isn't showing any signs of turning it around
Hold:
RF Vladimir Guerreo, 2B Jose Vidro, SP Bartolo Colon, SP Javier Vazquez all for obvious reasons.
Keep An Eye On:
SP - Tomo Ohka - Continues to impress
