Donovan McNabb (QB), PHI - Injury
September 14, 2005

News: Donovan McNabb has a pretty good history in the NFL of playing through pain. Philadelphia fans are hoping that on Sunday McNabb will be able to keep that positive record going. McNabb is currently listed as questionable for Sunday's game against San Francisco due to a bruised chest.

McNabb sustained the injury in Monday's game against the Atlanta Falcons, when Chad Lavalais crushed him in the first half.

The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that McNabb underwent an MRI, a CT scan, and that he had an X-ray on his chest at halftime during Monday night's game. The official injury is being reported as a "bruised chest."

Views: McNabb's backups are Koy Detmer and Mike McMahon, two quarterbacks that don't exactly have Eagles fans sitting easily. McNabb has said that he will probably start on Sunday, with the help of a flak jacket that he will wear for extra protection. I referenced McNabb's previous injuries above. In 2002, McNabb broke his ankle in a game but with the help of his linemen stayed in to throw four TDs. In 2003, McNabb played with a broken thumb, although that did affect his performance on the field.

If I had to make a bet on this, I would say that McNabb starts on Sunday.

Something that I haven't seen anyone mention (not that it is directly related to this, but anyway [hijack]) ....

How come no one has questioned whether the hit on McNabb should have been penalized? It sure seems like the player speared him or led with his helmet or launched with his helmet (whatever they are calling it this year).

The play should have been penalized, and the player should be fined.

on CSN philly today (daily news live. like the ATH PTI of comcast sports net for 90 minutes) thye showed a few things, that mathis was instigating the fight for a while by yapping at tthe LB group of philly (trotter was still dumb)
and they showed the hit that mcnabb took and how that guy was clearly aiming helmet to chest. the other defneder was blocking the view, but I think reid sent in his views to the NFL and the guy will probably be penalized

Welcomed hijack. I was not mad at the time because sh*t happens. I thought they should call it but oh well. Don't cry over spilled milk, it's football. My gut feeling was that the league would reveiw it and fine him. Tough guys dont get that call. Dante, McNabb, Favre, Leftwich, McNair and other QB's who are tough will not get it. It's little girly man QB's like Manning, Vick, and many others that get the calls. Not saying they are bad QB's at all, just fragile. So bottom line is I cannot believe that the league did not reveiw the play and fine the guy. I know they are going 100MPH but he clearly had to to decide if he was going to lead with his head.

All in all, I am glad it happened, I hope the coaching staff kicks their asses this week. They looked like DOOO DOOO!

Well, that's good. I'll be able to sleep tonight, then.
