Week Six Match-ups (UPDATED)

Quarterbacks

Plus Play:

Aaron Brooks, NO -- While Brooks is turning in a disappointing season, he’s the go-to guy this week – as should any QB when facing the Vikings’ defense. The Minnesota defensive backfield allows 294 passing yards and 1 1/2 TDs per game to opposing QB, so expect Brooks to throw early and often just to keep up with the high powered Viking offense.

Drew Brees, SD -- Brees has passed for over 400 yards and five TDs with no INTs in his last two games against solid Jacksonville and Tennessee pass defenses. While the Falcons are a top unit against the run, Atlanta’s secondary is definitely suspect, even by the Chargers’ mediocre WRs.

Negative Play:

Matt Hasselbeck, Sea -- If average does it for you, Hasselbeck has been on the mark. In the Seahawks’ crushing loss against the Rams last week, Hasselbeck virtually matched his average of 206 yards on 18 completions over the last three games. Meanwhile, New England’s 11th-ranked defense has allowed 221 yards through the air, with less than a TD allowed and has recorded five sacks a game. So feel lucky if you get an average game from him.

Jake Delhomme, Car -- If the Panthers are smart, passing will limited against the Eagles. Philadelphia has recorded 18 sacks in its first four games, the Eagles are coming off a bye-week fresh and prepared, and Delhomme won't have DeShaun Foster available for dumping short passes because Foster is out with a broken clavicle. Carolina is going to have to depend on the run if they want to win this game. Bad news for Delhomme.

Running Backs

Plus Play:

Fred Taylor, Jac -- The KC Defense Jackpot winner this week is Taylor. The update on this pathetic mass of humanity shows that they have allowed an average of 133 yards on the ground and at least one touchdown. They will be exploited by Taylor, who has been a disappointment, having scored only one TD on the ground this year. He should equal that and get his first 100-yard game this year.

Mewelde Moore, Min -- New Orleans ranks 28th in run defense and has allowed 144 yards rushing and two TDs per game. Without starting RB Michael Bennett, the Vikings have averaged 150 yards of total offense per game from their starting RB. Without Onterrio Smith, and even with the return of Moe Williams in a limited role, Moore will continue to be the workhorse for another week.

Negative Play:

Thomas Jones, Chi -- How much of Jones’ success is connected to the presence of Rex Grossman? In Jonathan Quinn’s first start last week, Jones is coming off his worst performance of the season against the Eagles. The Redskins are second in the league against the run (79 ypg) and are allowing a league-low 2.8 ypc.

Corey Dillon, NE -- Dillon is still expected to start against Seattle, which is fourth in run defense (84.5 total ypg) and has only allowed one rushing TD. The Seahawks secondary was exposed by St. Louis and the Patriots will try to attack through the air. This will leave Dillon with only modest numbers.

Plus Play:

Donte' Stallworth, NO -- Stallworth is coming off a poor week, but the Vikings have allowed 186 yards and over a TD receiving per game over the last three weeks. He should be a strong No. 2 WR play this week.

Plaxico Burress, Pit -- Burress had his first 100-yard performance of the season, running his total over the last three weeks to 265 yards and a TD. He and QB Ben Roethlisberger have seemed to be connected, like Tommy Maddox and Hines Ward had been. Dallas should focus on stopping Ward, matching Burress with rookie Jacques Reeves, whom No. 2 WRs have been eating up.

Negative Play:

Koren Robinson, Sea -- Robinson reeks this season, and Darrell Jackson has benefited from it. He would be a poor play EVEN IF the Seahawks weren’t playing the Patroits this week.

Jerry Porter, Oak -- Kerry Collins has struggled in his new role as the starter, and seems to prefer WR Ronald Curry over Porter, who has still not scored this season. Added to that is the Champ Bailey Factor. Bailey will shut down Porter. Count on it.
