Miguel Cairo at Second Base

Just when you think its safe to go back to the ballpark,
Just when you think the Mets might start Kaz Matsui (yea, they contradict)
Just when you think Kaz is healthy (he played on Sunday)

They start Cairo. I don't know if it's permanent, but I hope it is.

Unfortunately, he hasn't helped them, as they're down 2-0 in the 5th. But 2 on and 1 out with Beltran up.

According to Yahoo Sports, Cairo is the new 2B for the New York Mets. He already has 7 steals. He could be a could pickup for AVG...and 2B and 3B eligible

I am so glad they made this switch. matsui is a bum and needs to go. they could even play victor diaz at 2nd base or jeff keppinger or danny garcia any of them are better than matsui.

actually, they dropped Danny Garcia...

Matsui started yesterday, but it was only a spot start. MLB.com refered to him as a Modern Day Wally Pipp. For those of you who dont know, Wally Pipp asked to be sat down, and Lou Gehrig started at 1B that day. We all know the rest of the story. Gehrig hit and kept the job. Similarly, Cairo had been collecting hits left and right, but he actually suffered a minor bruise the other day so Matsui started. Cairo should be in the lineup tonite. I'll keep you notified on a daily basis.

The Mets nor Willie Randolph have ever said that Matsui has been benched.

Personally, this is the only thread I have seen that has reported this news.

I expect Matsui to start tonight, unless he is not 100%.

willie said that matsui is the 2nd baseman but cairo will continue to start at second untill he stops hitting. he sadi that they will not name cairo the2ndbaseman because matsui is the second baseman. however he said he will continue to play the hot hand.
