Baseball Player News: Roger Clemens (SP), HOU
By: Abhi Hendi

News: Roger Clemens made his last minor league appearance Friday before his scheduled start on Thursday against the Twins. He went 5 2/3 innings while allowing 3 earned runs. He gave up 5 hits, 5 Ks, and 3 walks (all in the first inning) and threw 91 pitches.

Views: This might have been the worst start of his minor league stint, but all the runs came in the first inning, mainly due to the walks. No he won't be pitching against Johan Santana, but ESPN will probably cover his return all day on Thursday. Maybe even what he eats for lunch. If you aren't in a sticky situation in terms of ERA, you should start Clemens when he starts.

I think Roger Clemens will come in and pitch great, but he's only 1 man.I feel that his team will let him down.He should of taken a deal with the Yankee's or Red Sox's,or any other contender.

Snap. Yeah, Clemens has no chance to help the Astros get to the playoffs. I mean, I'd be pissed if he signed with the Yankees. Other than that I don't really care what team he signs with. He probably signed with Houston for the money and also the closeness to home/family.

I'll take under that.

I'll take 15. 7 for Clemens, 8 for Liriano.

Are you serious? Do you realize that HOU is 1.5 back of the wild card?

Yes, I'm serious. The team looks like crap. Fine, even if they do, they won't make it past the first round.

WOW, the greatest right handed pitcher of the last 60 years has NO CHANCE of making up 1.5 games over half a season...WOW!

I'm sure he can but unless they start to pitch better and more consistently, Houston won't make it and like I said, if they do they won't make it past round 1. I don't really like Houston's chances and probably and most likely they'll end up failing like last year and the year before.

So failing is winning the National League pennant, huh? Get your facts straight before spouting off stupid comments. They're 9-3 in their last 12, allowing 29 runs over that time. They aren't playing bad baseball as you suggest. You say their problem is pitching but they've got Roger Clemens coming back who is a great pitcher. Though you'd probably call him a failure.

No I wouldn't. It's just every year everyone makes a big deal on how the Astros will win it all that year and with Clemens being the comeback "kid" they'll make it. But, I just don't see it happening. They're bound to get screwed over. Alongside another note, I don't see the Braves winning their consecutive pennant this year either even with the amount of games they're behind.

If you wouldn't call last season a failure, why did you? Go ahead and have your opinions on baseball, if you don't we wouldn't have a forum. But have some common sense. They are 1.5 out of the playoffs today and in two games that will be .5 up. They have the best right handed pitcher in 60 years coming back and you pronounced them dead in the water and back it up with counterintuitive arguments. Give Clemens some respect, I think he deserves that.
