News: Izzy blew his first save in his past seven chances when Marcus Thames rocked him with a two-run blast in Saturday's 7-6 loss to the Detroit Tigers. With all respect to his consecutive save streak, he had allowed a run in two three-run save opps during the streak.
Views: As a fantasy geek (specifically a pitching analyst), I've been railing on Izzy for the past two years. As a St. Louisan, I've had to bring up constant numbers to tell many of the homer fans around here that Izzy simply isn't very good over that same span. I finally have an audience around here!!!!!!!!
Izzy's blown save was his fifth in 29 chances, which actually isn't that horrible a conversion rate, but his actual performance has been nothing short of complete mediocrity to this point. In 1.2 innings of work, he allowed three hits (including the homer to Thames) and a walk.... sadly, this was actually not far off from his typical WHIP. Isringhausen now has a 4.06 ERA and 1.58 WHIP, which is far from what you're looking for out of a closer. As for the Cardinals, they lost their fifth straight.
