Baseball Player News: Bob Wickman (RP), CLE/ATL

News: The Cleveland Plain-Dealer is reporting that Wickman has been traded to the Atlanta Braves for Catching prospect Max Ramirez. Full details of the deal haven't been disclosed, as Wickman has a blanket no-trade clause in his contract and has yet to approve the deal.

Views: Expect Wickman to accept the trade, as the Braves suddenly have a legitimate shot at the NL Wildcard. Wickman hasn't had his best season closing for the Tribe, but the expectation is that he'll assume the closing duties at the back of the hapless Braves' bullpen. Wickman, 37, has 229 career saves and has been a moderately successful closer for the Brewers and Indians for seven seasons.

He'll solidify the back of the Braves' bullpen, but don't be surprised if Atlanta still tries to pick up another arm or two to help him out. This could either be another closer who would push Wickman to setup duties or someone who will try and get the ballgame to him.

As a Braves fan my comments are as follows:

Finally, we get a veteran guy to help out that bullpen. I would love to see the Wilson Betemit for Scott Linebrink deal still go down and then I think we can start to feel a little better about our situation. I've also heard Mike Gonzalezes name tossed out there by Braves officials. Gobble from the Royals is also another possibility.

Imagine if ATL deals for Gordon, that would be a sick 1-2 punch at the back end of the bullpen.

Golly, I’d really like to grab Carmona, but I don’t have the room. Josh Johnson is probably my only expendable player….I guess…

Ugh, this board has enough Mets fan as it is. I don't care about the division. We'll get you in the playoffs.

I am not sure if I would call Wickman sick anymore. He has been pretty mediocre this year. Maybe sick compared to what the braves had coming out of their bullpen two days ago

If ATL can get Linebrink or Gonzalez, then their bullpen will be considered "sick".
