News: With a little help from a (proper) correction made by the official scorer, Utley extended his hitting streak to 34 games with an infield single in the eighth inning against St. Louis. Utley is now just one game shy of Luis Castillo's all-time record for a second baseman.
Views: Castillo and teammate Jimmy Rollins (who had a 38-game hit streak between the end of last year and the first couple of games this year) are much more realistic options for Chase to surpass than Joe Dimaggio. His single tonight was originally ruled a hit, reversed to be called a fielder's choice, and then eventually changed back to a hit. Something tells me the official scorer was being pressured to change it back, though it was the proper call. It was basically a swinging bunt that ended up being a nubber just to the third base side of pitcher Randy Flores. Flores fielded the ball, took a step to set himself (and looked towards third base, though he really made no motion to third), and gunned the ball over to first. Utley beat the ball by a good step and a half.
