Sports writers Jay Mariotti and Jackie Macmullan were on Around the Horn last night, Jay being a regular. They got into the debate on if Fantasy Sports was a good thing or not. Jackie Macmullan said that Fantasy Players, "Need to find a job, and probably don't have a life." Jay Mariotti went on to say that people into fantasy sports are "geeks and nerds. And he's tired of his mailbox being full of the garbage regarding the game."

Obviously, they have their opinions. I just wanted to get this out so maybe we could get some hate mail going against them or something...lol...j/k. Anyways, never fear fantasy players, I watch around the horn and I have researched these two and they have no idea what they are talking about in any point of sports.

What are your opinions on how they feel?

Around the Horn owns even though their opinions suck more then half the time. Id have much rather had Woody tell me to get a job then Jackie, she's lame... Bob and Tim are the only ones on the show that seem to know what they are talkin about on a regular basis. I didn't see the show of them dissing fantasy sports because I was gone but it doesnt suprise me since they were bashing one of the panelists that I forgot his name about his fantasy nascar team.

The comments that they made don't offend me personaly but it's pretty dumb to put people off as geeks, nerds, or bums just because their hobby is fantasy sports.

Jackie McMullen dissed fantasy sports? Doesn't surprise me. She's a very dry writer (writes for the Boston Globe) and I personally can't stand her columns. I can imagine what she's like on that show.....

Personally, I can't stand Around the Horn. The only reason I sometimes watch it is because I'm waiting for PTI to start.

Always a good idea to make fun of what is likely a core part of your audience, especially when your show is struggling like theirs. What a comedy of errors.

This web site is cattagorical proof that Fantasy Sports fans are not geeks or nerds. I really don't watch Around the Horn either,........... because I HAVE A LIFE.

What is this Around the Horn crap that you speak of?

From some of the previous posts, it must be that sad excuse for a show they air before PTI.

Like it or not, there are certain things that you must keep in mind when taking into account any opinions expressed on a show like ATH...

1. At any given time, there are likely more guests on this site, than viewers of that ill conceived, utterly annoying, and ultimately stupid show. It really doesn't matter to me whether or not the sportswriters on the show know what they're talking about...because...the format is so bad, anything they say is boring. Factor in the moron leading the way, and I can't wait to ESPN buries this one.
2. Sportswriters, by and large, are not interesting in person...and normally should not have any place on television. There are obviously many exceptions to this rule...most notably Tony and Mike on PTI. ESPN needs to explore something completely different -- rather than trying to capitalize on its success with a poor knock off of this type.
3. Any sportswriter that believes he, or she, is somehow above the level of your average fan is sadly delusional. Take away the diehard fans, a large majority of which play the fantasy games, and they lose a majority of their audience. Writing about sports requires absolutely no talent, whatsoever, or intelligence for that matter. That should be obvious from watching some of these people in action. All it takes to be a sportswriter, truthfully, is a press pass and spell check. Of course, there are a lot of talented people out there, but by no means are they all such.

I just hate that damn show...I made it through the first 10 minutes of the very first show...and haven't been able to stomach more than 15 seconds of it since.

The Main Reason Sites Like Yahoo Exist and Are Profitable Happen to Relate to the Numerous Daily Hits they Receive From Fantasy Sports Players. There's Only so Much Yahoo Astrology or Movie News You Can Sell. I Would Imagine Fantasy HIts Dwarf Personals and Just About Any Other Single Topic Source Online. Fantasy Is Also One of the Main Sources of TSN Activity and One of the Reasons their Pairing with Yahoo Fantasy Has Led to One of the More Successful Pairings on All of the Web. No One Ever Said Writers were In Any Way Qualified to Write or Pontificate. They Simply Have a Platform, a Platform which they Often Use to Promote their Obvious Ignorance.

I only watch shows on ESPN. With my exception of "Monk" Anywho, you people don't understand. The people on ATH are good sportswriters, especially Jay Mariotti. A touch of bitter negativity and humor make sports columns readable. Besides, Mariotti is acting like a jerk on the show because he is from Pittsburgh, enough said. My only problem with the show are those stupid segways with those phonies J.Lo and Britney "All looks, no talent. AT ALL" Spears.

Mariotti is so stupid. Odds are he has a few fantasy teams among all his sportswritter buddies. They all do. NFL players themselves play fantasy.

I mean come one. Who else can picture Peyton Manning coming home after a game and checking his team? I can. And if he plays, you KNOW other do. lol

Max needs to stick with boxing. The show just sucks.
