As we enter the second month of the season, we still have a ton of pitchers I'd like to get to. Here's who has already been used:
Daisuke Matsuzaka
Zack Greinke
Johan Santana
Scott Kazmir
Tom Glavine
John Smoltz
Jake Peavy
Brandon Webb
This week may not exactly have our finest hour. I'm not seeing a whole lot in the intriguing matchup department as compared to past weeks. While there are still a ton of aces I want to cover, there aren't a whole lot of them who are slated for a big head to head matchup this week.
Actually, to amend my statement in the previous paragraph, there are quite a few that I like, but there really aren't any ace vs. ace matchups. Some of the more intriguing ones:
Sabathia vs. Burnett - The fact that Burnett started off really slow doesn't help matters here, though we could have a pair of borderline aces here.
Buehrle vs. Colon - Very intriguing, though neither carries their real value to fantasy-land completely.
Garland vs. Lackey - Lackey's an ace. Garland's a number four. The AL lacked five great matchups, and because Garland's always overvalued by someone in a league, it's here.
Cabrera vs. Bonderman - Because of Burnett's slow start and the fact that neither Buehrle nor Colon typically strike out beau-coup hitters, this is the most intriguing matchup in the AL to me.
Padilla vs. Halladay - They'll actually square off twice this week. It still doesn't mean I think Padilla is really all that good.
Johnson vs. Maine - This would be really interesting if Johnson didn't have a balky back and was pitching relatively well.
Willis vs. Maddux - I think I might be sold.... even if Maddux doesn't have a ton of fantasy value.
Zito vs. Francis - I'm shocking myself by putting two Rockies' pitchers in the NL options. I really like Francis, and this could be an interesting finesse lefty battle.
Wolf vs. Hudson - Both coming off of a rough past couple of years, but both off to good starts. Wolf is still looking really undervalued.
Harang vs. Cook - I said I really liked Francis. I'm not as high on Cook, though he's effective as a sinker-baller.
My vote's going the way of Wolf-Hudson because they both have real value (albeit as middle of the rotation guys) in fantasy-land and they're both pitching well right now. |

I was torn between Johnson-Maine and Willis-Maddux, but I went with the former. I kind of like the idea of a dominant pitcher from the past generation against one who's on a roll right now. |

I voted Johnson Main because I think that it will be a low scoring game and these two pitchers are polar oposites |

The Mets own Johnson, but I still voted for it. |

I went Colon, Buehrle. even though both offenses can score enough runs, I think It will be fun to watch because bartolo was lights out in his last start and mark obviously had the no no. |

Randy J. + J. Maine.
Let's see if Randy Johnson can retain his K/9 and ERA in Arizona and if John Maine can continue his outstanding pitching. |

I'll change my vote that way.....
If we get four more who would prefer that I spotlight the Lincecum-Hamels matchup, we'll go with it. As for the winner (Johnson vs. Maine), Maine looked pretty strong. Randy Johnson didn't look horrible with the exception of two pitches. I was stunned when I saw the geriatric Julio Franco take him yard, but he pulled something off that was almost as unspeakable when he let line drive/gap hitter Paul Lo Duca do the same.
I'd be fine doing Hamels-Lincecum instead, and I'm sure we can get enough support for me to do that. However, it has to get enough votes as the write-in candidate for us to do that one instead. |

I just hope we do another Maine game this year.
I'll go to Hamels/Lincecum. |

I think it's a little too premature to pick the Hamels Lincecum game. Let's wait until Hamels becomes consistent and Lincecum lasts more than an inning. |
