News: Carlos Zambrano gave up three runs in the first inning Thursday, and six total, as the Cubs lost, 6-4, to the Pirates.
Views: Zambrano was charged with four earned runs on the day, but the three in the first were all earned and, once again, put him in a deep hole. He allowed seven hits and two walks despite striking out six. Lou Piniella looked flabbergasted (to be nice) as to what is wrong with Zambrano.
It's not walks. He allowed 19 in his first five games, but just five over the last three. He hasn't been terribly hittable, averaging a hit an inning his last four starts. It's just when it's hit, it goes a long way. He's given up at least one HR in seven of his eight starts, and nine HR overall.
You're not going to get value for him, so unless you do, you just have to sit him for now.
