Baseball Player News: Matt Cain (SP), SF
By: James Meyerriecks

News: Cain fell to 2-7 on the year despite another stellar outing Saturday as the Giants fell to Boston 1-0. The 22-year-old righthander allowed just one run on three hits and a walk in seven innings. The only blemish was a solo homer by Manny Ramirez in the fourth inning.

Views: Cain has now lost four straight decisions and six of his past seven decisions overall, which is why he's an ideal buy low candidate right now. During his current four decision losing streak, Cain has a 3.05 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. In those six starts, the Giants have scored a grand total of ten runs for him. In fact, they've scored just 45 runs in Cain's 14 starts.... and 15 of those runs came in one game in Colorado. On the positive side, it's impossible to see Cain's run support getting much worse (they've been shutout in each of his last two starts and in three of his starts so far this season). On the negative side, despite the fact that the Giants boast Cain (22), Noah Lowry (26), and Tim Lincecum (who turned 23 today) in their rotation, they're still the oldest team in the majors, meaning that we shouldn't expect their offense to get too much better.
