Baseball Player News: Cameron Maybin (OF) DET
By: Bill Frikken
News: Cameron Maybin went 0-4 in his Major League debut with 2 strikeouts in a 6-1 loss to the New York Yankees. Maybin had a tough chore facing Andy Pettite in New York.
Views: Well, at least he has arrived. The highly touted Maybin was immediately plugged into left field with his promotion. He looked like he was trying to hit 400 foot shots with each swing. Hopefully he'll find his groove after a torrid stretch upon promotion to double A ball. With the Tigers ultimately releasing Craig Monroe, and Marcus Thames getting occasional starts at 1B and nursing a sore hamstring, it looks as if Maybin will get some decent playing time. He batted in the second spot Friday night with Polanco unable to play due to the flu. |

Maybin just went deep. He's younger than me; it makes me think I've somehow wasted my life.

Just hit a shot. And he has braces, top and bottom. |

Yeah, I think about it a lot too. I just crossed that threshold where I'm older than the young studs out there. I think it started with Sidney Crosby (born exactly one month after me)... |

Yeah and he was born in 89 right? Imagine if you were born in 79. I used to think about that all the time. |

No. 89 means that Crosby would be 17 or 18. And I'm 18. Sidney was born in 87. He just turned 20 like 2 weeks ago. |

I was born 89 so I am experiencing all the "sh*t he is younger than me" now. |

At least you can call yourself a child of the 80's, sort of. Working at camp I have been having kids born in the 00's (whatever the hell they're called). Nothing makes you feel old like a kid telling you they were BORN in 2002 . |
