Right so with the MLB draft coming up, I was wondering who are some of the big names, and then which guys are going to fall due to signability concerns?

I ask because my Mets have 2 first round selection a supplemental pick then two second rounders. Im hoping they can go ahead and get some decent prospects to help fill their system back up.

From the college ranks:
Pedro Alvarez--3B--Vanderbilt
Brian Matusz--LHP--San Diego
Aaron Crow--RHP--Missouri
Gordon Beckham--SS--Georgia
Buster Posey--C--Florida State
Tanner Scheppers--RHP--Fresno State
Shooter Hunt--RHP--Tulane
Christian Friedrich--LHP--Western Kentucky
Justin Smoak--1B/3B--South Carolina
Yonder Alonso--1B--Miami

From HS:
Tim Beckham--SS--Georgia HS
Kyle Skipworth--C--California HS
Eric Hosmer--1B--Florida HS
Harold Martinez--SS--Florida HS
Tim Melville--RHP--Missouri HS

That's a very cursory list, but I hope it helps. Milb's got some good information and draft videos up right now.

http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/events/draft_report/y2008/index.jsp

I definitely think drafting for need is a mistake in baseball, but I really like both the top catchers (Posey and Skipworth) and would love for either one to be available for the Cardinals to select at 13.

1. June 5th and 6th.
2. I hope not. It felt like ESPN made them use all five minutes in the first round. I really missed the rapid fire draft picks.

It will be aired once again this year.

Eric Hosma, HS 1B, is going to fall due to signability, likely.

Is Aaron Crow a top 10 pick? He's been fighting some back spasms this spring, but he's got electric stuff.

I'd be shocked if Crow isn't a top ten pick. Hell, he's probably not going to get past the Royals at 3rd overall.

not neccesarily, does Tampa need him? Someone like Matusz or Crow makes more sense...

I think the Rays will draft the best player, whoever that may be.

Now, whether that's Alvarez is now debatable. He started off the season hurt, and he's had good numbers but not necessarily great ones this year (.311/.416/.538 in 25 games).

I think Tim Beckham could first overall just as easily.

I was hoping to get a chance at watching Crow, but I guess I won't be able to. Melville could be interesting, too, since he throws 93-94 and sometimes gets up to 95.

9 out of 10 the best player is overall in baseball unless your the giants or pirates or scott boras...

Beckham is good but alvarez looks like one of those once in a generation type players

I think you're getting carried away in some Pedro hype. If he was a once-in-a-generation player he'd easily be the top draft pick regardless of money. He's good & has a legit shot of being a perennial All-Star but he's not Alex Rodriguez.

Alvarez isn't even as good as David Price. He's NOT a once-in-a-generation player or there would be no debate whatsoever about who would be the #1 pick in the draft. He's a very good player in a draft class that is loaded with good-to-very-good players & no excellent players.

If he's so good, why is there so much discussion about who will be the #1 pick?

Because baseball drafting is all messed...It's always about money...otherwise wieters should have gone #1 last year...BJ Upton in 02 I think it was...

I just saying there is always the factor of money.

Alvarez is the top player talentwise. You can not teach talent.
