News: After an injury-riddled 2008, Smoltz signed a 1 year deal with the Red Sox Thursday which could be worth $10.5 million if he hits all of his bonuses. He'll likely begin the season as the number three starter.
Views: The rich get richer. The Red Sox can now claim their rotation runs about nine deep, but Smoltz is clearly a superior option to several of their young hurlers. While Fenway and the AL East offenses aren't liable to help him a whole lot, his fantasy owners should thoroughly enjoy a massive increase of run support. Expect him to be a legitimate number two fantasy starter if he's healthy.
