LATEST TEAM INFO

• Edgar Martinez Is Now Officially Ready to Roll. In his First Few Pinch Hit Appearances, Martinez Often Swung at the 1st Three Pitches he Had the Chance to See. Edgar Martinez is known as one of the More Patient hitters in the Game. A Hitter that hits the ball Hard to All Areas of the Ball-Park. When Martinez Starts to drive the Ball the Other Way with Authority Get him into the Line Up and Enjoy a Nice Months Worth of Quality Production.

• Jaime Moyer Is Pitching As Well as Anyone in Major League BaseBall – R.J., Pedro, Barry Zito, Derek Lowe, Odalis Perez, A.J. Burnett, Tom Glavine, Freddy Garcia, Bartolo Colon, Mark Buehrle, Curt Schilling, Kazuhisa Ishii – and Should Represent the AL in the 2002 All Star Game. However, Yankee Apologist Joe Torre has Sent out a Memo to All Prospective Applicants: Pitch on the Sunday Prior the TuesDay Festivities and Plan a Nice 3 Day Vacation Because Old Joe Torre Will Automatically Disqualify That Pitcher From Participation. A Cursory Look at All Star Balloting Shows An All Yankee All Star Roster Is not Too Far Off The Horizon. When the ‘One Player From Every Team Rule is Abolished, Joe Torre Will Find a Way to Bring his Whole Pitching Staff. Torre Over Looked Arthur Rhodes in 2001 to Bring Mike Stanton When Rhodes Was in the Process of Compiling One of The Great Middle Relief Seasons in Major League History { 8 - 0 Record, 3 Saves, 83 StrikeOuts in 68 Innings, and a 1.72 ERA Over a Span of 71 Games }.

LOCAL PERSPECTIVE

• The Mariners have Found a Way to Maintain a Lead in the AL West, Even Without Production From Numerous Players Due to Slump and Injury. With Edgar Martinez Now Back at the DH Spot, The Entire Seattle Line Up Should Fall into a Quality Streak of Double Digit Production. Bret Boone, Jeff Cirillo, John Olerud, Ruben Sierra, Carlos Guillen, Mike Cameron, and Mark Mclemore Have All Been Hot and Cold Throughout the Majority of the 1st half of the Season. With Edgar Back in the Middle of the Order, Pineilla Can Anchor Suzuki in the Lead Off Spot and Follow Ichiro’s Speed and On Base Wizardry with the Hot Bat of the Moment. Boone, Cameron, Mclemore, and Even Cirillo Can Hit in the 2 or 3 Hole Depending on the Pitching Match-Up, and a Lineup Of: 1- Suzuki 2- Mclemore 3 – Boone 4 – Martinez 5 – Olerud 6 – Cameron 7 – Cirillo 8 - Guillen 9 – Wilson ; Should Become a Consistent Fixture for Mariner Fans over the Next 3 Months.

RUMOR MILL

• The Indians Have Started the Salary Sale Sending Bartolo Colon to Montreal for Lee Stevens and 3 Minor Leaguers { SS Brandon Phillips, Out-Fielder Grady Sizemore, and Pitcher Cliff Lee }. Brandon Phillips Was the Jewel of the Expos System and Should Make Indians Fans Forget about the Erratic & Rotund Colon, Especially Given the 2 Years He Added this Spring Training. Hopefully the Mariners Can Acquire a Quality Left Hander Like Shawn Estes { A Former Mariner Minor League Prospect Traded to S.F. for Salomon Torres } or Chuck Finley Before the Second Half Battle Gets Too Interesting.

INJURY

• Jeff Nelson Has Finished a Rehab Assignment and Has Been Activated by the Mariner Organization. Expect Nelson to Be Worked Back into the BullPen Rotation over the Next few Weeks.

ON THE FARM

COMING SOON

QUICK VIEW

• Seattle Is the Definitive Second Half Favorite to Surge Into the Post Season as the AL West Representative, However, a Quality October Run Will Come Down to a Quality 1,2,3 Punch In the Rotation. Garcia Is Not the Man to Start a Game 1, and Moyer Is Not a Prototypical Ace, So Pineilla Will Probably Start Garcia In a Game 1, Moyer in a Game 2, and Pineiro or Baldwin in a Game 3. Assuming N.Y., Seattle, Chicago, Boston or Oakland Represent the AL for the 2002 Post Season, The Mariners Could Use Another Power Left Hander to Flip Some of the Quality Switch Hitters Around to the Right Side. Jorge Posada & Bernie Williams, Ray Durham & José Valentin, Tony Clark & Jason Veritek all Hit For Quality Power From the Left Side of the Plate. And Oakland Can Stack the Line Up with As Many as 8 Quality Left Handed Hitters, so 2 Quality Left Handed Stoppers Would Be Ideal for any Team Hoping to Upend N.Y., Chicago or Minnesota, and the Wild Card Reprasentative from Boston, Chicago, or Oakland . In My Opinion Joel Pineiro Could be a Post Season MVP Coming out of the Pen for 2 - 3 Innings 3 or 4 Times a Series.

ADD « NEW »

• Jaime Moyer Has Been Unhittable for the Past Month of the 2002 Season.

DROP

• Don’t Drop your Beer if you Make a Trip to the Ball Yard as it Could Set you Back a Weeks Pay. Make Sure and Try to Stop By Some of the Mall Stores Prior to Attending the Game as you Can Save a Few Dollars on Monopolistic Pricing. And If you Feel the Need to Grab a Bite at the Park, Try the Hit it Here Café. And for a Quick In Game Snack, Ivar's Fish & Chips Hit the Spot. There is also a New Burrito Stand That Looks Quite Intriguing. Just don’t Drop that High Priced Food.

HOLD

• Freddy Garcia Has Been one of the Best Pitchers in the American League for the Majority of the 2002 Season. Lou Pineilla Recently Left Garcia in for a 10 Run Beating, But It Was out of Nececssity as Pineilla had Worked Julio Mateo 2 Innings, Facing 9 Batters In the Final InterLeague Game At Minute Made Field in the Previous Game. Pineilla was without John Halama who was off to the East Coast to Tend to Family Business and Finally Pulled the String Grabbing Fraklin in the 4th Inning and Mateo in the 6th. Mateo Pitched 4 Innings of Scoreless Ball and Was Rewarded with a Quick Demotion. Garcia’s FastBall Was Not Sharp and his Velocity Was Down From his Normal 95-97 MPH. Garcia Also had Problems with his Control and Mental Focus, Something that has Not Appeared to Bother the Mariner Ace over the Past 2 Months of the 2002 Season. Garcia is a Known Second Half Closer, So if He’s on Your Roster, Keep him. And if he’s on another Managers Team, Inquire on his Availability, as a Healthy Garcia Should Finish with 18+ Victories and a 3.00 ERA.

TRADE

• Carlos Guillen Has Been Sliding Since Starting the Season on a Nice Hot Streak. Guillen Recently Had a Run in with the Law, Had His License Suspended for Refusing to Submit to a Breathalizer Test, and Was Charged With D.U.I. After Being Pulled over for Speeding. The KirkLand AP Reported that Guillen Was clocked at 89 mph in a 60-mph zone While Travelling Through the Clyde Hill Suburb Thursday June 13, 2002. An officer said he smelled alcohol, saw his eyes were “bloodshot and watery'' and Then Administered a Portable Breath Test that Indicated Mr. Guillen’s Blood Alcohol Level was .093. The State's Legal Threshold Is Set at .08. Guillen Was Resting Because of Injury at the Time, and Has not been able to Put Together any Kind of Consistency Since the 2nd Month of the Season.
