News: Ross agreed to a one year, $3 million deal with the Red Sox Monday.
The expectation is that the Red Sox dumped Marco Scutaro's $6 million salary to sign Roy Oswalt, but Ross should help them a bit. With Carl Crawford iffy for the first month of the year as he recovers from wrist surgery and Ryan Kalish likely out until midseason recovering from neck and shoulder surgery, Boston needed an outfield bat in a bad way. Ross fits the bill pretty cheaply. Ross, 31, struggled to build on the success he had in the 2010 playoffs last season, batting just .240/.325/.405 with 14 HR in 405 AB. He's capable of hitting for a slightly higher average with 15-20 HR pop.
