2007 Mock Draft Software ... Version 3.02

Take the challenge! Try to outdraft the computer. Enter your own projections or use the ones that come with the program. Use any drafting strategy you like. Either way, I bet you have trouble outdrafting the computer.

It is free, but I do take donations from Paypal, see the link above. Geared towards Yahoo style leagues, you can run your mock draft order snake, flat or out of order. It comes complete with 2007 player projections, which are totally customizeable. The projections are a combination of ZIPS, CHONE, Marcel and a few minor tweeks done by myself. Some of the projection systems are better than others at certain aspects. The projections are just something to get you started, I am not in the business of giving accurate projections but I try my best. The software comes with a utility you can use to modify the projections, so please don't criticize my projections as you can easily modify them. You can also configure the number of teams, the positions you use when you do your mock draft. Pit yourself against the computer, or against other real draftees, or just watch the computer draft for each team. You can even set their intelligence level to different settings. As each player is drafted, the standings update in real-time. After you draft atleast one hitter and one starting pitcher, the computer gives you advice on which player would move you up the most in the standings. It's a great way to fill a weakness in your team. The software updates rosters, shows you the best player remaining at each position, sorted by any of the 10 categories. This is a must have. You can save off a partially completed draft and load it again at a later time. It's fast and easy to use, you can even use it in your live draft after some practice. And I'm always available for questions.

Download and run the setup.exe file and the program will self install on your computer.

Recent Upgrades


  • You can now select either a 4x4, 5x5 or 6x6 league and there are many categories to choose from.
  • Added a feature that allows you to import your Yahoo draft results and have the program project your standings based off of your draft results. See the help/faq section for help on how to do this.
  • Updated aveage ESPN average draft position rankings. You can now use the ESPN average draft ranking positions as your player value.
  • Added batting average field to edit database utility

Troubleshooting
If you run into any troubles with the installation don't hesitate to email me. One of the most common problems is people having sensitve operating systems that won't install and register the ActiveX components. If you run into this problem, you can download them here, and follow these instructions.

First copy the file to a place you do not plan on moving it from. For the most part the most common place for ActiveX controls is C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 (or C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32).

Once then, then click Start. Then Click Run. Then Type:

regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\filename.ocx
(replace with real filename)

Click Ok.

You will see a message box pop up saying the control is registerd. Now try running the program again.

Re-Installing Warning... If you re-install a newer version of the software, make sure you you rename or save to another folder any projections, league configuration or partially completed draft files you may have made.

Replacement Level

An article by Keith Woolner which explains replacement value.

An Example...
The sabermetric algorithms that the Mock Draft Software uses to evaluate players is based on the replacement level theory. Here is a very simple example explaining the basics of it.

Imagine a league that has 3 outfielders and 3 shortstops to draft, with three owners getting to select one from each of those two positions.

Your make believe outfielders are...
Player A (Value = 20)
Player B (Value = 16)
Player C (Value = 14)
--------------------------------
Player D (Value = 11)
Player E (Value = 6)

Your 3 make believe shortstops are...
Player F (Value = 15)
Player G (Value = 9)
Player H (Value = 6)
------------------------------
Player I (Value = 3)
Player J (Value = 2)

The dashed line shows you where the replacement level is for each position. The value of the first player above the dashed line is the replacement value for that position. That is the minimum value any owner should be able to draft at that position (14 for outfielders and 6 for shortstops). Keep in mind this is just an example to show you how the calculations work, the value distribution is not very likely.

Now, to calculate the Replacement Level Value for each player, simply subtract from his value the replacement level at his position.

Player A (RPV) = 20 - 14 = 6
Player B (RPV) = 16 - 14 = 2
Player C (RPV) = 14 - 14 = 0
Player D (RPV) = 11 - 14 = -3
Player E (RPV) = 6 - 14 = -8

Player F (RPV) = 15 - 6 = 9
Player G RPV) = 9 - 6 = 3
Player H (RPV) = 6 - 6 = 0
Player I (RPV) = 3 - 6 = -3
Player J (RPV) = 2 - 6 = -4

You can see from this example, that Player F has the highest RPV (replacement value) of 9. If you had the first pick in this 6 player draft (3 OFs, 3 SSs) your best bet would be to draft Player F. You are atleast gauranteed Player C in a snake draft at the other position. This would give you players of value 15 + 14 = 29, which couldn't be beat as long as everyone drafted the best available player.

Let's look at how the draft would go using RPV. Each owner must draft 1 player at each of the two positions, of course in a real league there would be more than 2 positions involved, more fantasy owners and a larger player pool. That is why it's important to have a computer do all the calculations for you.

Owner #1: Selects Player F (Value = 15)
Owner #2: Selects Player A (Value = 20)
Owner #3: Selects Player G (Value = 9)
Owner #3: Selects Player B (Value = 16)
Owner #2: Selects Player C (Value = 6)
Owner #1: Selects Player H (Value = 14)

Owner #1: Team value of = 15+14 = 29
Owner #2: Team value of = 20+6 = 26
Owner #3: Team value of = 9+16 = 25

By using the Replacment Value Algorithm Owner #1 was able to draft the strongest team of the three, even though he passed on the player with the highest value (Player A) with the first overall pick.

How to get my team rated using draft software program:
1) Load the league config file (Yahoo, if a yahoo public league)
2) Load hitters file (hitters05)
3) Load pitchers file (pitchers05)
4) Set draft sequence to 'Out of Order'
5) Set Draft Type to 'Manually select all players'
6) Set bench size to 5
7) Turn on bench stats
8) Click 'select team' tab
9) Click the check box of the team you want to draft for.
10) Click 'Draft' tab
11) Mock draft start
12) In the list box select the team you chose to draft for.
13) Draft the players that are on your team until roster is full
14) Set draft type to 'Computer drafts for all teams'
15) In the list box select the first team, or if you are the first team, select the 2nd team.
16) if you want computer to draft like a person, select use Default ESPN rankings... default is computer drafts using artificial intelligence algorithms.
17) Mock draft start... now computer will draft for the remaining teams until all teams are full

Click standings tab, and watch standings update.

I have uploaded the preliminary 2005 version. There will be upgrades made to it, but feel free to test it out and give any feedback for any problems you find.

I noticed that the help file says that we should include the following for pitchers:
Lname,Fname,Tm,Pos,IP,ERA,BB,WHIP,W,S,K

but the files that accompany have two more columns. I'm guessing that it should read:
Lname,Fname,Tm,Pos,IP,ERA,BB,WHIP,W,L,S,K,H

Is that correct?

Yes, that is correct. The 2004 version has two less pitching categories, that is so I can easily add more pitching categories at a later time. I will update the help file so as not to confuse anyone. FYI, there is a utility found in the Tools menu for editing the player database for both hitters and pitchers. I created this so people wouldn't have to manually edit the ascii file with the projections in it, but you can do it either way... whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Still more work with custom projections. I'm not using your built-in editor because it is more efficient for me to import my own text files. I'm not knocking the projections you provide with the software, I've just got my own stuff that I want to use. It's not working but I have several questions that might be playing into it so:

Our league has 9 pitchers, but it doesn't matter how many are starters and how many are relievers. In that case, I select 9 total pitchers, and because it forces me to choose numbers for SP and RP, I set them both at 0. Is this the correct way to handle this situation?

Because our league doesn't care about SP vs RP and the draft software needs a position for each pitcher, I set them all as 3 (1+2). Does the draft software treat pitchers like the batters, where you add the values for the positions together for players eligible at multiple positions? I assume so but I thought it would be safer to ask.

Our league is 4x4. Obviously I can draft 5x5 and then cut out K and R from the standings, but since the computer will be making choices based on projected values for those two categories, I decided to set them all to 0. I have my 5x5 projections, which load up fine. I opened them up in excel (which I used to create the working 5x5s in the first place) and set the columns for Runs and Ks to 0, saved these as new files. Depending on what order I try and load the 4x4 pitcher and hitter files, I either get a Run-time Error '6' or a Run-time Error '11'. I've tried setting all the runs and strikeouts to be 1 instead of 0 to be sure that wasn't causing the problem. I've also tried changing the projection files provided to set the runs and strikeouts to be a constant value and still get this problem.

Is there anything else I can do that will accomplish my goal or is it beyond the scope of the software? I'm currently running version 1.13.

So far with a commanding lead throughout most of the draft, I've fallen to 4th or 5th place most of the time.

The way I would do this is set number of SPs and RPs to 0 and number of 'All Pitchers' to 9. I think the way you did it would work too, but that might be more work than necessary. 'All Pitchers' = 9 should work!

Hey, that's pretty smart. I think that should work for a 4x4 league. Very creative!

My guess at your problem is that you have the WRONG number of parameters on one of your text ascii lines in the database file that you have edited. Pitcher files should have 13 parameters per line, and hitter files should have 15. If you have one single line with the wrong number of parameters you will get the error that you got. It sounds like you are able to run a mock draft with the files that come with the program, but have this error when using your modified projection file(s)... is this correct? If so, that is most likely your problem. That is why if you manually edit the text ascii files, you have to be very careful, and that is why I provided the utility to do this. Check your files.

It's very difficult to beat the computer in the mock draft.

Please either email me or post an answer back on if you are able to fix your problem. If not, you can email me your database files, and I can run them through my debugger and find out exactly what your problem is.

I've tried my 4x4 method with the hitters05.txt and pitchers05.txt that are included and I still get the same errors. Oddly, there is no error if I don't load both databases. Either one will load up by itself just fine. I did find that there was an empty line left at the end of both files but I took it out and still no luck. I'll mess with it some more later today. Could you attempt to set all the runs and strikeouts to have the same value and see if it works for you? I'll email you the files I'm using this evening if you need to look at them.

Are those rankings going to be updated? I just don't get why Mussina, Mulder, Hudson, and Prior are ranked SOOOOO LOW! If I could get those guys in the last 4 rounds of my draft, I wouldn't draft any other starters until then.

As the disclaimer says, if you don't like the rankings/projections there is a utility under the TOOLS portion of the drop down menu, that allows you to modify the player projections. As stated earlier, I am not in the business of providing projections, just gave you guys a baseline to start with. Projections were calculated using a last three year results algorithm (for most players). It would take and endless number of hours to make projections by hand for every single player, and spring training hasn't even started so we don't know who will get what at bats in some cases.

What format (hitting and pitching) are they in? Perhaps if you email me a sample, I might be persuaded into writing a conversion program. You might have to do some of the work yourself... like enter the positions that each player qualifies at, if it's not part of their format.

thanks, but I have changed about 98%-99% of the projections based off a different set of projections. However your projections were very close on most players. they differed most on players that I thought would have more abs, I added more abs/inn on players that were hurt and also I had a larger decline in productivity on players who were getting old, as their 3 year averages would be on the high side.

Your software is great, if others are interested in seeing my projections post here and I'll send a copy to you.

its great software but is there anyway to incoperate a couple things into the value rankings?

1. Players value after a down year, it shouldnt be so low, as real life humans will view that as a time to buy them moderately low.
2. players coming off of injury. they shouldnt fall off the fantasy map, and they shouldnt be valued as NOTHING when you draft them.

I just dont understand why players like Eric Chavez can last till the 6th round in your mock draft software.
lance berkman lasted until round 8...
I dont understand why Beltre lasted until the 5th round...
I dont get why mike lowell lasted until like the 13th lol
and sammy sosa lasted until round 20...yes my last pick

ok so those are my problems...injured players value is so low that they are available much too late in the mock draft. and their value when added to your team should be higher, I mean heres my team...

how do you suggest I change the projected value of a player? the program has already ranked berkman as like the 30th outfielder, and the program only gives him a small percentage of value like 2.9 % where as guys like bonds are getting 7 %. and its not like you can make the computer drafters draft those guys earlier. sorry I actually have some criticism...but there is evidence that it could be better...just looking at my offense and my last place standing after the draft.

Did you even take the time to read the WHOLE thread? I already brought this up earlier in the thread....and Xeifrank addressed it. He was nice enough to let us use the software for free, now it's up to you to actually READ the instructions and change the players values on your own, it's time consuming and tedious, but it is free and it works excellent, so stop complaining and educate yourself!

Like I said before, read the rest of the thread, someone else actually changed the projections and offered to email them to anyone interested. I took him up on the offer and his projections are actually pretty good.

Just a note to all: Pitching projections have been updated to mirror projections that were put out by RotoChamps.Com. Previously, most of the pitching projections were just 2004 final stats. If you'd like to download these files, I suggest just downloading the Data Files (mockdata.zip). If you've changed previous projection files, it might be a good idea to rename them so you don't accidentally copy over them.

I changed all my projections so that instead of ave, I have OPS are you planning on adapting your software for this type of situation?? Does 1.24 have that capability??

1.24 just comes with updated projections.

In the future I hope to make more selectable categories, but for now I have the standard 5x5 categories hardcoded into the program. If you want to use OPS, SLG% or OBP instead of batting average, you will need to swap the (if you want to use OPS) OPS data and the batting average data in the projection file, then remember everywhere you see batting average on the program it is really OPS.

You need to get them in the same format as my projections are in. 15 parameters for the hitters and 13 for the pitchers, in a comma delimited file. You can look at the hitters05.txt file and follow the same format. If you can't tell what the categories are I will post them here.

I want to do that to some degree. There are alot of possible categories, so I can't cover all of them, but there is probably a way to do it. It will take a bit of work, so don't expect it for the 2005 version. One thing you can do, is substitute a category for one of the hard coded 5x5 categories that I currently have in there. For example, if you don't want to use Runs and would rather use something off the wall like HBP you could just replace the runs projections with HBP projections and wherever the program says Runs, just remember that it is really HBP (just an example of how to do it).

When do you plan on adding OBP ability to your functionality? This is the only thing I am missing, I am in a 5x5 league that uses OBP instead of BA. This would be very useful and I plan on making a donation if you have this out by March 5th ( my draft date ), but the sooner the better! Thank you for this wonderful piece of software.

Batting average doesn't seem to be a part of the projection file, I am assuming that it is figured out using Hits/AB. So how would I substitute Batting Average with OBP?

1.24 just comes with updated projections.

In the future I hope to make more selectable categories, but for now I have the standard 5x5 categories hardcoded into the program. If you want to use OPS, SLG% or OBP instead of batting average, you will need to swap the (if you want to use OPS) OPS data and the batting average data in the projection file, then remember everywhere you see batting average on the program it is really OPS.

OBP =
(Hits + Walks + HBP) divided by (At Bats + Walks+ HBP + SF)

So in the file, replace hits with (Hits + Walks + HBP), and replace At Bats with (At Bats + Walks + HBP + SF)

Hello,

I tried to add 2 pitchers to the database. When I tried to do it using the edit players function, there was no way to put in the name. I went into the text file I created and entered them in there, same format as everything else and they are in the database (if I go to the edit players function they show up), but when I open the pitchers database for the draft, I cannot get them to show up on the list of draftable players. I had the same problem with hitters I added in as well, but somehow I got them to get on the draftable list. Please help me!!!

I will look into the pitchers editing form and see why the name entry fields don't show up. As far as your players not showing up, my assumption is that you are loading a different database file for your draft than the one you modified. Check that first. I'll look into it on my end too and post back if I found something.

The software is setup to ignore any pitcher that is projected for less than 24 innings. The larger the database the slower some of the functions, like draft advice work. I did this to cut down on players that would most likely NOT get drafted. Check to see if the player(s) you added to the pitching file are projected to have more than 23 innings. If this isn't your problem, please email me.

After brief testing on the draft tab, the advice pushbutton appears after approximately the end of the 2nd rd in a 12 team draft.

1) When you click a player I.e 1B Jim Thome in the top advice box, his name changes. What's the logic behind the change?

2) Is there any way to synchronize the advice box with the draft selection box when you click on a player in the advice box? I've overwritten last year's version, but I thought it updated in the draft selection much like when you click on a player's name in the advice tab now.

3) Has Javy Lopez migrated into the MI, CI realm of the advice box? It seems that the logic may be getting distorted in these positional categories after a few draft selections.

Thanks again for all your hard work. I just wanted to help test some of your early versions of this year's software.

The button appears after you've drafted 1 pitcher and 1 hitter, as stated in the help section.

It is showing you the top 5 players at that position. If Thome shows up as the #1 firstbaseman and he moves you up 11 points in the standings, you can click on his name and see which firstbaseman moves you up the 2nd most. Atleast, that is what it's suppose to do. :)

I'm not sure that feature was ever in there. You can click on the players name in the advice tab list, or you can click the little down arrow on draft selection (players name) and just start typing the first few letters of the last name and the program will quickly find the player (command explosion). This is a very quick way to draft a player, just type in T-H-O and next thing you know Thome is right there along with Thomas.

This is a minor bug. Sometimes when you have already filled a position up, it gives you a bogus player for advice at that position. It's easy to know you already have that position filled, so just ignore it for now.

Also, if I get projections from another site, and they don't have 2b or 3b totals, can I just blank those out, or will it affect the draft.

It won't effect the draft at all... just blank them out, they aren't used at this point. I tried to add some extra stat categories to the projection file, so if I did make the categories selectable or expanded to 6x6 I wouldn't have to change the format.

I would like to thank you for your software, it is a wonderful tool. I will definitely be using it for pre-draft practice and also plugging in the actual draft picks of the teams in a live draft to help decide who to take in the draft. I have a couple questions. First, could you please disclose what the formula or the weightings are for the 5X5 categories for coming up with the player value in the advice tab. I have created my own hitter values for each ML starting hitter and I am using "The Hook" column to get my expected pitching numbers. Altering the values of the hitting and pitching stats have gotten my drafts to look much more like what a real draft would look like. One thing that stands out is it seems that in your system, batting average contributes to a players value a little more than I both like and expect and the opposite is true for steals. In future editions would it be possible to alter the 5X5 category weightings for creating player value. You could create a tab for it like you have in the select team tab with hitting/pitching preferences.

An example of what I am talking about is to compare Phil Nevin with Shea Hillenbrand. I assigned them the following stats:

Nevin BA .285 = 171/600 Runs 80 HR 28 RBI 100 SB 1 Value -0.23
Hillenbrand BA .290 = 174/600 Runs 75 HR 18 RBI 86 SB 2 Value -0.11

I really don't see how 3 hits and 1 SB can create more value than 5 Runs, 10 HR and 14 RBI.

It also seems SB are undervalued much in the way BA is overvalued. I believe this because most of the early drafted speed players are chosen later in your software than they are in real life.

Beltran BA .277 = 166/600 Runs 113 HR 30 RBI 105 SB 40 Value 9.46
Mora BA .315 = 189/600 Runs 110 HR 30 RBI 115 SB 12 Value 10.95

I don't think 23 Hits and 10 RBI are more valuable than 3 Runs and 28 SB. Please note, the argument shouldn't be if the players will achieve these stats in real life or not since they are only my best guess, but if they do achieve these stats the wrong player in my oppinion is valued higher. Creating a way to change the weightings would be an excellent tool to include in the software.

Another couple minor things for future editions you might look into is that you should be able to quickly see a player's stats when you click on his name in either the advice tab or when he is the player queued to be drafted. A button to see the stats next to the draft button would keep us from having to scroll or type his name to see the stats. Also, when editing a player's stats, you have to manually change a player's team each time you edit the player. If you view a player and assign him to a team, the next player you view is assigned the same team. A player's team should not change unless it is manually done. It is frustrating having to put each player back on his correct team each time you edit him. Thank you for this excellent software.

Mora and Beltran do not play the same position, and Hillenbrand may qualify for more than one position. Players are compared to players at their same position, when determining value using a positional scarcity formula.

Yes, it was disabled because ESPN rankings hadn't come out. If they are out please forward me the link and I will put it in the next software release when I get the time. I disabled it, because the program still had the 2004 ESPN rankings and people were complaining that they weren't accurate, well...

I used your software last year during each of my drafts, and felt it really helped. I've been tinkering with the new version, and liked the ability to modify stats easier. It got very long and tedious, especially since the alphabetization was backwards from the compilation list I was working from, so I tried to use Excel. It worked very slick, but the stats didn't translate back...not a shock, especially after going through and reading all the posts on here after that. Your stats were close enough to make it work for the drafts.

You plan on doing one for football leagues as well?

Just another satisfied customer....

I'm getting a Run-time Error '9' - Subscript Out of Range whenever I try to start the draft using the latest version (it worked fine on earlier versions). I have been messing with the projections, but I don' think that's the problem because the error happens even if I don't load up the altered databases. Any idea what's going on? Thanks.

Great Program! I note, only when using the espn option, that Manny Ramirez and Aubry Huff each have a 1.1 rating. They were both still available on the last round! This doesn't seem to happen otherwise & their stats look fine in the database. Certainly, espn has them both going very early on.

I added a new feature to the draft software program today. You may download it in version 3.16

The new feature allows you to import your Yahoo draft results into the program. The program then reads your results and gives you a projected standings of your whole league, each and every team. This is a great way to analyze not only your draft, but the strengths and weaknesses of each and every team in your league.

Here are the instructions on how to do so.

First go to your Yahoo draft results page and copy and paste the draft results into a text ascii file. Copy starting with the row that lists all the team names down to the row with the last player drafted. Copy this data and paste it into a text ascii file and save it in your Program Files->MockDraft directory. Next open a hitters and pitchers database file followed by your league configuration file. Next, from the drop down menu select File->Open->Import Draft Results. The file you will select will be the text ascii file that you saved with your draft results in it. After you do this you will see the draft results log populate and when it is done you should be able to select the Standings Tab to see your leagues projected standings based on the draft results. You may then turn the bench stats on and off to see if there is any difference.

I noticed that the Yahoo draft list has the naming format different than the database (A.Pujols vs. Albert Pujols). Could that be the problem?

Yes. You must always open a league configuration file first. So create one, save it and open it. Then I would open a hitters and pitchers file, then before doing anything else, I'd save it as a partially completed draft. Then I would import the draft file.

No, that's not the problem. My code has already taken that into consideration and can also differentiate between the two J.Lopez and P.Wilson players, and also all the spanish players with the tilde in their name... boy I hate yahoo for adding the tildes. :)

If you are in a public league, post your league id number and I can create the file for you. If not, paste your draft results here or email it to me and I can check for errors that you may have made.

Glad to hear you got it working. Yes, the draft results on the league website are tab delimited, and when I copy n paste the results to a text ascii file in notepad, it keeps the tabs. Perhaps when you were doing your pasting, you were losing the tabs?? Anyways, glad to hear you figured it out... perahps anyone else having trouble can do what you did!

problem is the 1st team on the list is being skipped. If I do an all computer draft, 1st round skips 1st team, drafts next 9 teams than starts drafting all 10 teams for round 2 in order. If I select a manual draft and manually select the 1st team, it skips the 2nd team and continues. If I do a draft vs computer and select the 1st team, it skips me and runs the next 9 and gives me a pick in the 2nd round. very strange. Any ideas?

You will have to choose one pitching and one hitting stat that the computer won't use. I'd replace AVG with OPS and not use IPs. To replace AVG with OPS, will take some work.

You will need to replace the Hits and At Bats data to give you your OPS results/projections. The way I'd do it, is if you had a player with a projected OPS of .800 I'd replace his at bats with total at bats (ab +bb) and then replace hits with ((ab + bb) * 0.800). It's alot of work, but it's the best way to do it.

Go back into your draft file and add a TAB to the end of each line.

Thanks, but that did not solve the problem. I tried adding a "TAB" to the end of every line line and that caused a run time error 52, bad file name or number. I also tried a "TAB" at the end of each line with a drafted player. That loaded but still did not draft properly, skipping the 1st team on the list. I have also noticed when the partial is loaded and before the darft starts, the 1st team is ighleted in red as if it was going to draft. When the draft starts, however, the 1st team is skipped but remains in red. The 2nd team drafts and the next team to draft is always higlighted in red before they draft. The 1st team remains highlighted as well untill the next round when all seems to be corrected. I really wish I could get this going so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I think the other poster was confused to what you were doing. First off, thanks for being patient. The bad news is, you did find a bug! The good news is, I fixed it already and uploaded the fix in Version 3.30 which is now available for download on the website. I tested it out using a flat draft and letting the computer auto pick. It worked. But please give it a test and let me know if you run into any problems.

Is there an easy way to find the walk statistic to add it to the hitters file? How about an alternative like making the Hits category OPS * AB and keep the AB category the way it is? I know I'll be missing the walks stat, but will OPS make up for that? I actually tried this, and players like Rolen and Pujols ended updropping to the 3rd or 4th round--what am I missing?

sorry, this takes a little more research than I have time on my hands at the moment. I'm sure if you play around with it long enough you can come up with something workable. Try to do what I suggested, if it's alot of work then create your own smaller hitters database perhaps with just 20 players in it so you don't have to change every single player, which would take forever. And when you get something workable, then you can apply it to the complete set of players. Just a thought. The program wasn't built for alternative categories to the standard 5x5, but there are ways to fudge other categories. You are the first person to do this one, so good luck blazing the trail. Next years wish list includes many things, like adding other categories, and having more than 5x5. It will take a major re-write since the program was designed for 5x5, but if it's not too much of a science project I will try to do so for next season.

The yahoo projections are actually just rankings and won't be available until Yahoo opens their fantasy baseball sometime in February.

When I am doing a draft with a league I made myself, when I daft against the computer, Jim Thome is selected more than once. The computer would select him but he would stay in the pool of avaible players. Is this a glitch with the system or is it just when you create a new league?

P.S. When he is taken after the first time, he is not added to the other team's rosters.

Thanks for all the comments. There is a bug with the computer drafting Jason Kendall too many times that I am working on. As far as the duplicate players in the database, like Thome, Urbina, Polanco, that has been fixed. Remeber the projection files are there for you to modify. I'm getting a couple of bugs in the new version which shuts down the program.

After I create my own league and then go to click on another tab, I get:

You can enter your stats into an excel spreadsheet then arrange the columns in the same order that my database format uses (see the help drop down menu for this format). You will need to make it comma delimited. Try it with a few players first and get the format correct before trying your complete database. Relief pitchers are ranked and the players are sorted by whatever filter you select. Default filter is overall value.

That is weird, a temporary way to combat that could be to change the other teams' drafting philosophy. When you have your league config all setup, go to "Select Team" - the tab at the far right - and you can change managers to draft more on the side of hitting. I think this should help make a more realistic draft if or until Xeifrank tells you how to fix it...

This is a great tool. Anyway one could use it too input their draft in as the draft took place. For example, could I set the time to the actual draft time in our league and when someone picks keep track of it in your application. This might help to realize some weaknesses in your team by looking at the standings tab while the draft is going on. Thanks for the hard work.

Yeah, that's easy to do, I do it for all my live drafts. What you do is before you start the draft. From the menu, select Draft manually for all teams, and also choose snake draft. Then when you start the draft, you will just enter the player and it will automatically go to the correct team. Just practice, because if your draft goes fast you have to enter names fast. Also, if someone drafts some obscure player not in the database, you need to be ready for what to do. I usually add some crappy player at the same position then correct it at the end of the draft. Also, save as a partially completed draft as often as possible, just to save your work.

Cool software. I am enjoying playing with it. But I am mystified by the figures displayed for Slg Pct when you open a hitter database for editing.

For example, in the AL hitter projections file, the Slg Pct for Jason Kendall shows up as .368. It appears you are using H+2B+2*3B+3*HR+W/AB+W (although W is not really part of Slg Pct), but for your Kendall projections this should yield .400. Where does .368 come from?

Oddly, if I edit the database to modify the projections for Kendall, and then put them back they way you have them, the Slg Pct displays as .400. (It also displays as .400 when you view his stats in on the draft page.)

It isn’t just Kendall, the same discrepancy is present for all the players I have looked at.

Just curious I know you cant accomodate all requests but BBs for hitters would be a very valuable one at least.

I loaded the traditonal.drf, mixedhitters06.txt and mixedpitchers06.txt files then selected draft vs the computer, snake draft sequence and everything worked fine. The standings updated just like it is suppose to. I can't think of anything that you could be doing that would cause this and it is something I've never heard someone else complain about. Until someone else runs into this problem, I am not sure what to tell you. Is the standings tab the only one you are having troubles with? What version of the program do you have?

Very odd. I am using version 2.26. I even tried a fresh install of the program and data files on another computer and have the same problem.

However, I just tried loading one of your other league configuration files (yahoo.drf) and drafted vs the computer and didn't have the problem. So, the problem appears to be with the traditional.drf league configuration file.

I used the 05 version and it was fantastic...very excited about using it again in 06.

I am having a problem figuring out how to do an "out of order" draft to facilitate keepers. The instructions say:

Q: I am in a keeper league, and I want to enter the player kept from each team and then run a Mock Draft. How can I do this?
A: Create and save your league configuration file, then before you start your mock draft, select the draft sequence of 'Out of Order' and the draft type of 'Manually Draft For All Teams'. Then draft each player that was kept on a roster and you will have a text box asking you which fantasy team to put each player on. After you finish this, I would save your partially done draft. Then when you reload your draft, select snake draft or flat draft before starting, then start your mock draft and the program will skip teams that have more players on their rosters, until roster sizes are equal.

But I cannot seem to find the draft sequence setting. Under my tools menu I have Mock Draft, Edit Player Database, Level, Draft Type, Draft Time Intervals, Player Ranking System, Select Bench Size, Bench Player Stats, Create New League, Copy Rankings to Clipboard, and Output Draft Results to Excel.

I am using version 2.26. Where can I find this setting so I can set it to "Out of Order?"

The league I am in has half the amount of slots for pitchers as there are for hitters, so there are 8 pitching categories and 4 pitching categories. is there anyway to change the configuration so that I can draft with BA, R, H, HR, RBI, SB, 2B, 3B for hitters and K, W, ERA, SV for pitchers?

I just made it for he more common 4x4, 5x5 and 6x6 configurations. Perhaps at a later date I will do what you suggested, but probably not for this season. Sorry. :)

A couple of odd things with ver 3.06.

1) When I set up my 6-tearm league with pitching rosters of 5 SPs, 4 RPs, and 0 Ps the misc tab page shows prior to any drafting that 30 RPs and 24 SPs remain to be drafted; shouldn’t it be the other way around?

2) In the advice tab, the Util players seem to have very high value ratings. A-Rod, for example, shows a value of 71.9 as a util but only 34.4 as a 3B.

I will look into the SP, RP players left calculation. The UTIL is higher because I took out the position scarcity for Util as all players are equal at that position. Thanks for the comments.

Quick question regarding the team rating after draft. Last year's version would rate how you did after the draft compared to the other teams, and this year's doesnt. Is there a way to get that option back, because the above description about how to get your team rated is a bit confusing, and not the way I usually conduct my draft. You can still do it. Yahoo changed the draft results format, therefore I had to make a code change to reflect theirs. If you need any help, email me and I can step you through it. Basicall you need to copy and paste the draft results into a text file and import it. There is an example file in the download called something like draftresults.txt (not sure off the top of my head the exact name). Follow the same format as that file.
You will first load a league config file
load a hitters file
load a pitchers file
load a draft import file
hit the standings tab

1)that it helps you run a replacement value draft? Certainly the long decription about what replacement value is after the software description suggests that the software does it, but... I found this through a search engine, and, beng a 1st time visitor, I kind of thought the replacement value discussion was an unrelated post.
2) the OS requirements (Win XP?)

Also, what do you do when 2 players have the same Replacement Level Value (especially in different positions)?

Finally, anyone know if there are mock draft result compilations on the web anywhere? (antsports.com has them for football. It would be interesting to be able to import mock draft results and have the computer use a combination of the mock results+ RLV for a few different drafters.

Not sure what you meant in #1.
#2: Should work for any windows OS. I developed it on both W2000 and W XP, so those I know work for sure. No MAC OS's work.

Mock draft results: Rotojunkies.com has some. Yahoo even posted one a few weeks ago.

added a feature on the "Misc" tab that forecasts what you will need to win the standard 5x5 counting categories in your league.

Also added hits, innings pitched and at bats as valid categories.

- In the advice tab, what is the Cl position?
- The advice button on the draft page seems a bit different than the advice tab. The way I understood the replacement level value on the index page, taking the highest value player across any position (that doesn't have a starter yet) should yield the best team (correct?). But, if I click the advice button on the draft tab, it seems like different players appear. I think this is probably for different draft strategies, but my mind isn't quite wrapped around them yet.

I've been using this software for a couple of years now and this is my understanding. The CI position on the advice tab refers to corner infielder, I.e. 1B and 3B combined. The advice tab shows the overall best players at each position. The advice button on the draft page tells you which player will move you up the most in the standings relative to the teams you are competing against. Hope this helps.

Not sure if the program itself will change. You can either import projections for the 2007 season yourself, or I may do so at a later time. Zips and Chone projections are already out (for most teams).

2007 hitter and pitcher files have not been updated with 2007 projections yet. I am not in the business of making projections, though some do aleady exist out there (ZIPS, CHONE, Marcel, PECOTA). The software does come with an editing tool where you can enter your own projections, or you can bring up the projections in a text ascii editor and add players, change stats etc..., I am not really in the business of doing/adding projections, just of providing the tool to do the mock draft. That being said, I will probably come up with a baseline hitter and pitcher database later in february.

I downloaded the Zips list, but I'm trying to determine how to put it into the text format so that the columns match up. For example, your lists from last year have Name, Position, Team,...etc. whereas the Zips list if I did a copy and paste does Name, Right/Left Handed, Team, Position,..etc. That was just an example, but I'm looking for the format of your lists as your tool reads it in. Also, thanks for the quick replies on here.

Would anyone like to get a group together and do a text list manually? Is it even possible? I figure.....if 5 other people (6 total including me) combined our efforts, we could have the top 300 players knocked out in a day or two (50 players per volunteer). That would give us enough players to do a 12 team draft with 25 man rosters (12x25=300).

Anyone interested? I'll do players 1-50 as soon as I see five others who are interested.

Will we need some more info from Xeifrank? Hmmmmm...?

If you are willing to wait a couple weeks I will have something out. I just don't have the time to do so right now. I believe there are some detailed descriptions on the ascii file formats for the projections. Either from the drop down menu in the program, or the FAQ link on the right menu bar.

2007 version is now out (vers 2.02), please download and install and let me know if you run into any prpblems. The 2007 projections are a combination of the ZIPS, Chone and Marcel projecting systems with some minor tweeks made by myself. None of the projection systems did too well with saves and some had a problem projecting proper playing time. vr, Xei

You are making all this sound complicated. It's really not that difficult. I've been using the program for a few years. In past years I found it quite easy to copy and paste the projections into an excel spreadsheet. Once the excel spreadsheet is properly setup you just save it in a comma separated text format. It works quite well. If you want to email some sample projections to me I will show you how it's done.

... and beyond that there is a utility within the Mock Draft Software program where you can edit both a hitting and pitching database file. First go to your C:\Program Files\Mock Draft (the directory the program is installed to), open your notepad or wordpad program, then create and save a blank .txt file (Call it something like mypitchers.txt or myhitters.txt). Save it and exit. Run the program, and from the Tools menu, select Edit Player Database. On the Edit form, select File-Open (either pitchers or hitters database, whatever you want to edit). Select your blank file as the file to load. Then simply use the GUI to add, remove and edit players. I wouldn't recommend entering every single player this way, but it's a good way to get your projections from a player or two into the proper file format and it's a good way to make modifications to the projections I put out or perhaps you made. The other option is to open your projections file with Wordpad/Notepad and manually edit the numbers. If you do it this way, be careful not to miss a comma or it throws everything off. You can also cut and paste projections into a .csv file (using wordpad) then open up that file in excel and move the columns around so that the statistical categories are in the right order. You just need to make sure that the projections you use have the players position and all other category information that you want to use. You need to know what position # each position is.
1 = RP
2 = SP
4 = C
8 = 1B
16 = 2B
32 = 3b
64 = ss
128 = of
256 = dh
if a player qualifies at multiple positions, just add the numbers together from all the positions he qualifies at. C/1B = 12, 3B/SS=96 etc...

3B is weak with Mora but that lineup is solid. 2B is even worse.

Pitching I'm going to assume it's Ervin Sanatana. Pitching is pretty good. It's a good chance Saito and Putz are going to close for their respective teams.

Yeah, it is a good draft although 2B/3B is weak. From the looks of it:
C- Pudge
1B- Pujols
2B- Durham
3B- Mora
SS- Reyes
OF- Soriano, Holliday, Dye
Util- Morneau
If I had that I'd suggest trading Hanley for a better 2B and Garciaparra or Young for a better 3B. 2B will be the hardest to get and 3B will be easier.

The value rankings are computed internally. Once Yahoo and others like ESPN open up their leagues and have pre-ranking lists. I usually make an altermative ranking/value system based on their rankings. Alot of times having the computer draft on one of these two ranking systems gives you a more realistic draft, as many of your typical Yahoo and ESPN competitors tend to draft based off of the default pre-rankings. It's a good way to "dumb" down the computer and make the draft a little more realistic. I am considering making a way for people to make their own rankings in a text ascii file that can be imported to the program. But like a few other upgrades that I'd like to do, I will do it when I find the time to do so.

I just uploaded version 2.24 which has the option in the drop down menu of having the computer value players based on the Yahoo pre-ranking list. I like this option because it gives you a much more "Yahoo" realistic mock draft. The computer will draft similiar to what you will see during a Yahoo draft.

I just ran a mock draft and that doesn't happen for me, nor have I ever seen it happen. Perhaps you are doing something to reset the team you are drafting for, or are not selecting a team to draft for. Go to the "Select Team" tab and select the team you want to draft for as the last thing you do before you start a draft and see what happens.

I think I've figured it out after tinkering with it for the last hour. For some reason, if I wait a minute or two after entering in all my settings before hitting start......my chances of getting the spot I chose increases. If I open up the program and speed click through everything and immediately hit start, then it drops me to the last spot every time. Very strange.

So Troy Glaus is SS eligible in Yahoo leagues this year. I edited the info in the rototimes rankings, and he appears in the advice tab rankings as a SS, and MI--but only in certain categories. In both RBIs and Runs, he only appears as a 3B and SS--but not in the MI group rankings!

(2) RTRRatings --> Error box showing "Run-Time error '62': Input past end of file" When I click OK, it closes the program.

For example, let's say you have a 12 team league. Each team will be numbered 0 thru 11. 0=first team, 11=the 12th team.

withing the .dsc file you just input the order you want the draft to take place in.

0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11
would have team 1, team 2... team 12 draft in that order.

11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1,0
would have team 12, team 11... team 1 draft in that order.

3,5,8,10,11
would have team 4, team 6, team 9 team 11 and team 12 draft in that order.

You can combine the different rounds on the same line, or you can seperate the rounds with a carriage return. Just keep everything comma delimited.

it's all pretty straightforward once you understand the numbering. Email me if you still need help with this.

I will try to answer the last two questions.

Don't use the Yahoo rankings yet, they are from last year. I haven't updated the Yahoo rankings with 2008 Yahoo rankings yet. Stick with the computer rankings for now.

For 2008 ZIPS projection files use:

alpitcher08.txt
nlhitters08.txt
nlpitchers08.txt
MixedHitters08.txt
MixedPitchers08.txt

Please let me know if you have any problems with these files. I am still fine tuning playing time issues with the projections, but most are pretty good for now.

Once you begin your draft, from the drop down menu select.
Tools->Player Ranking System->Yahoo

If you wish to use an imported ranking system then select.
Tools->Player Ranking System->Load From File

An example file to load that comes with the installation is called
yahooprerankings08.txt

You can modify that file to have the computer use your own rankings. Keep in mind these are rankings only, not projections. It is a way to force the computer to use your set of rankings. Keep in mind the spelling of the names in the rankings file must be the same as the spelling of the name in the projections file, otherwise the program won't recognize the player.

Danny Haren, Victor Martinez, and Carlos Beltran are misspelled thus confusing the software and making them get drafted way later than normal. I saved the changes to the .txt file, but for some reason they still get drafted late.....? Hmmmmmm.

Also, remember to remove Ryan Braun from the MixedPitchers08 list. Otherwise he gets drafted super early as a pitcher but doesn't accrue any stats.

Great find. I think I fixed this with the 8.2.28 release. The Ryan Braun KC pitcher getting drafted as if he's the good Ryan Braun :) was a software bug that I hopefully fixed. There were a few other spelling errors besides the ones you found. I recommend using the YahooPreRankings.csv file, for some reason I have both the .txt and .csv with the same name. I also included a MockDraftCentralADP.txt file that has the rankings using the Average Draft Position of MockDraft Central and their mock drafts.

For those having trouble with the installation, try the following:

Here's what I would do. You will need a few basic computer skills to do this, but it's not complicated at all. In the download you have three files, one of them is a MockDraft.CAB file. Find this file. This file contains all the setup files and application files you need. The tricky part is you will have to manually copy them, since the installation isn't working for you. You can get the files out of the CAB file by using the Unzip tool that you have. I suggest unzipping them to some temporary directory first. Then manually copy any .dll, .tlb and .ocx files to your C:\Windows\System\ folder, IF they aren't already in there. Second, copy all the other files to the directory that your installation may have already created for you. It should be something like, C:\Program Files\MockDraft\

This will work. I would only copy the system files over, if you don't already have them.

Mine worked great. I used the Alternative download. This is great stuff. And able to download into Excel. If you could tailor it to your own league specs as far as which categories, it would be genius. My league really has no use for middle relievers and a lot of them get picked in the draft, so I think that would skew the overall rankings, but other than that, I love it.

Great software, Thanks. Is there a way to update the pitchers that have been taken when you sort by ERA and WHIP? Is anyone else having trouble with this? All pitchers are listed even if they have been taken. Also, would it be possible for it stop you from drafting players from positions you don't have left, ie drafting Ellis Burks for the position RP. Or, let it draft, but not count the stats for that player.

FYI, a new version has been uploaded on Feb 24th.

Change log:

1) If you don't have a position available on your roster for a player you tried to draft, the program won't put him on your team. You will get a warning asking you to select again.

2) After a pitcher has been drafted his name and stats are removed from the sorted available player box under the WHIP and ERA category.

3) Default time interval between picks for the computer has been changed to two seconds.

4) I think this is the MOST IMPORTANT change. You no longer have to load the league configuration file, hitter and pitcher databases each time you want to run a draft. Just load the three files one time, then save your draft as a partially completed draft (File->Save-Partially Completed Draft). Then each time you want to use this league configuration with the same databases, just Load this partially saved draft file and the configuration file and databases will be loaded automatically for you.

I've allowed for league of up to 20 teams now, it use to have a limit of 16. I've also allowed an option to have the computer follow the default yahoo pre-rankings for it's drafting. It doesn't follow the pre-rankings exactly, there is a little bit of randomness, so that no two drafts are exactly the same. This can help, since many yahoo fantasy owners follow the yahoo pre-rankings, especially in an Auto draft.

Today I downloaded the new version and everytime I create a new league it automatically adds bench positions to the draft, which I don't want, i.e. we have a league with set roster positions and no bench. The 3/12 release is now out. I made the bench sizes customizeable between 0 and 3, the default is 0 and can be changed from the drop down menu.

I also made the 'Advice' feature faster. It should take anywhere from 3-10 seconds to get advice on who to pick.

How to fix your run time error problem:

Hi
This problem occured because you put the wrong number of parameters on one or more of the lines in the database. For example:

Durazo,Erubiel,OAK,8,421,118,81,26,84,0
There must be 3 text entries followed by 7 numerical entries, if not you will get this error. For pitchers:


Miller,Wade,HOU,2,200,3.51,61,1.275,16,0,172
There must be 3 text entries, followed by 8 numerical entries. To find out what number goes with what category see the help tab.

Sabermetrics of MLB Mock Draft Software:

The sabermetrics uses what is called 'Replacement Value' to give value to players. A simplified explanation would be to calculate how many hitters will be drafted, if 9 hitters per team and 12 team league then 108 hitters will be drafted. Sort each of the five categories take the 109th person with the most HRs, RBIs, Ave, SBs and Runs. This number becomes the replacement level, which means any player needs to have more HRs than the 109th to add positive value to your team. If the #1 HR projected person is Bonds (just a made up example) with 55HRs and the replacement level in HRs is 20, then Bonds actually contributes 35HRs above replacement level. Next calculate what percentage of the total pool 35HRs is, do this for each hitting category, add those numbers together and get a total value for each player. Same is done for pitchers. The ratio categories are converted to counting stats, Ave, ERA and WHIP, since players with more AtBats or IP carry more weight than those with less ABs or IPs. If you look at the pitchers sorted by ERA you will notice that a starting pitcher with an ERA of 2.70 is rated higher than a relief pitcher may be with an ERA of 2.40 since he has more IPs.

When I start a draft and am almost done I save it as a partial draft. The problem occurs when I open it later, when it loads, the teams get all messed up, it puts players on the wrong teams. Any fix for this?

I did run into this problem a while ago too. I think with the most recent version this 'shouldn't happen. Try to download the latest version. But for an immediate fix to your problem. Find your partially completed draft file (file extension .par) It is an ascii text file, the players should be listed in the order they were drafted. Look to see if there is a "" on one of the lines, if so delete it, look to see if someone was thrown in as the first pick like "AJ Burnett", if so delete that line too. If you remember how the draft went, verify that the players are listed in the correct order or atleast that someone who wasn't drafted isn't listed in the .par file. Then save the file and load it up again and it should work. But I would install the latest version or else you will get this same problem the next time you save your .par file. If you need any further help, let me know.

I did what you said and now when I reload my PAR file to finish the draft... the info loads but I get a message that it is already completed and I can't view the standings, etc. I still have bench spots to fill. Any ideas?

Excellent program. I downloaded an older version a few weeks back and have already input my own predictions for all the players listed. If I upgrade to the newest version will my predictions still work? I wouldn't want to redo them, especially with my draft this Sunday. I was wondering if in future editions, or a different program you could make scoring categories adjustable? Like using other scoring systems besides 5x5. I wish I was a programmer as I would probably already tried this myself! Keep up the great work!

This is a very good program but I have a few questions..

#1. When I open up the software and want to switch to another window, the program disappears and the only way to do it is if I minimize all my windows to see it. Is there a way to do it so that I can select the program by clickng on one of the buttons along the start menu bar?

#2 Original projections were from rototimes.com and I did make some slight adjustments as players were traded, signed with new teams, or were announced as starters or bench players.

I have uploaded a new version for 3/24. This version allows you to select whether you want a snake draft (1-12, 12-1...) or a flat draft (1-12, 1-12...) I have also made some minor changes to the player databases. You can select which type of draft you want Snake vs Flat from the drop down menu. By default the draft uses the Snake format (if none is chosen).

Xei--I have some projection software I'd like to use and want to know how you import the projections so the commas are there: (name,team,pos,ab,h,r,hr,rbi,sb)
Our draft is tomorrow night and I'd like to be on the same page with my "store bought" program (FYI--your's is MUCH better).

Also, if I can import the projections, would it then be possible to customize things to our league's scoring (OPS in place of HR and K/IP in place of K's)?

For POS (positions)

1 = Relief pitcher
2 = Starting pitcher
4 = Catcher
8 = First baseman
16 = Second baseman
32 = Third baseman
64 = Shortstop
128 = Outfielder
256 = Utility

If someone qualifies at more than one position, just add the two numbers together. For example, Dunn qualifies at both OF and 1B, his POS would be 8+128=136, so put 136 in his Position entry.

Use a file extension of .txt Notepad default for hitter and pitcher database files.

Let me also caution you that if you use your own projections, make sure you have alot of players in your database, anyone you think could get drafted.

The program is only setup for standard 5x5 with the 10 categories set in stone. Next years version will allow for more categories.

Great software. I'm running into one problem though - I can't seem to add pitchers. I have no problems opening the hitter file and adding players, but when I add pitchers, they are not there. Also, if I just try to change more than one or two stats for a pitcher they also do not show up in the program.

This version fixes the problem some people had when they saved a partially completed draft the reloaded it only to find AJ Burnett listed as the first overall pick.

The alternative setup file has the same application as the Zip file setup version. It uses a different installation wizard program to do the installing. Some people were having trouble installing from the zip file and it had something to do with the way Visual Basic builds the installation program. So I made an alternative setup file using an installation wizard program I downloaded off the web. You can use either one and you will get the same results. It might be easier to use the alternative one since you don't need to unzip anything.

The 6th tab is to be used when drafting vs the computer. You can select which team you want to draft for. Otherwise, you will draft for the first team.

Hi-
i really love this software. what a great tool!
anyway, i've been messing with it this weekend, and i've got a few problems.

1) when i get 3/4 of the way through a draft and then save it and close out, and then I go back into the software and bring up the partially saved draft I had and try to restart it, it says that the draft is over even when there are spots left to fill on some of the teams. one problem might be that it is not recognizing the 5 bench players I chose as part of the league configuration? just wondering....

2) my second problem is related to the first one...when a partially finished draft is loaded, and i get the above problem where it says the draft is over (even tho it isn't), it won't show the projected scoring.... Which is what I really wanted to see in the first place as I was using this tool to input the entire actual draft results of the league I am in so that I could see my projected final position using the projected stats for the players I chose versus the rest of the league, so that I can assess some of my team's weak points.

otherwise, great work so far on the software, keep up the good work.

Restoring a partial draft using the new "flat draft" (Thanks for that 1) has some problems. Even though flat was used and saved, during restore the players drafted are placed on rosters using a snake format rather than a flat.

Version 4.02 has been uploaded.

It fixes the problem of loading a partially completed draft that was created using the "Flat Draft" sequence. There is now a sub-menu option for loading a partially completed draft as a "Flat" or "Snake" draft.

For football we have the PredictionPro program, which helps predict how your fantasy team will do (head to head only) each week, and which players you should start. I don't have any software for fantasy basketball. The baseball MockDraft software was a big hit and will be much improved upon for next season.

If I may make a few suggestions for next season:

1. since a lot of people join yahoo leagues, have an easy way of adding data/stats from copy/paste of yahoos rankings. This way, people can easily enter their own data all season long to keep up to date stats for dropping/adding effectively. This will go along with having fully custimizable categories which I believe you are already going to do. It took me quite some time to convert the midseason stats to your format from yahoo.
2. Not sure if I read this or not but incorporate more than just rotisserie leagues. Head-to-head and point systems too. I had created a spreadsheet for my point system league and I'm sure your program will be much better.

Other than this, I really enjoy the program and keep up the good work.

1. Good idea. I will see what I can do about that.

2. It's not easy to incorporate H2H point systems, since much of it depends on how many starts your pitchers get each week and which team you are playing against. I may incorporate drafts where you bid on each player and have a salary cap. It all depends on how much time I want to dedicate to this project vs my free time.

Take Care, and enjoy the rest of the baseball season. And most importantly don't accidentally grab a corked bat like Sammy did. :)

Great tool. I used it in last years draft and took first. Actually we lead the whole year which is the first time that has happend. I have a request for one quick change. When a player is accidentally drafted and you want to go back and undraft that player you click the BACK button. When I do this the player does get put back into the player pool but his name stays on the roster list. Could you make the change so when the player is mistakenly taken that the roster is updated with the correct player?

I will have a new version of the software out shortly. I have the data files updated with the final 2003 statistics at this point, but still no 2004 projections. That part you will have to wait for. I will also look into the problem with the "Back" button that was pointed out.

Reason why I'm so interested is that we are doing a slow draft for a keeper league (1st year so no keepers yet) that starts this week. I would like to play with some options asap. Hi there,

I am very pleased with your software so far. I do have one issue that keeps coming up though. I keep getting a runtime error '6' overflow. I modified some of the stats to your hitters04 file and saved it under a different name. I have the 3 named cplumns and 7 numeric comma delimited so, I am not sure what I am doing wrong. PS. My modifications to the pitching stats work great.

He is there, you are probably loading the American League database which is called alhitters04 you want the mixed league hitters file which is hitters04

It means you are trying to load the pitchers file from the load hitters menu, or trying to load the hitters file from the load pitchers menu.
