Fantasy News

Kevin Millwood
Millwood has been a quality frontline starter for any fantasy team. Combine his above stats with 82 k’s and he’s a proven ace. He’s got a No-Hitter under his belt and two complete games. Along with Randy Wolf, these two form a formidable one-two punch.

Randy Wolf
The acquisition of Millwood has allowed Wolf to assume the number two spot in the rotation. Wolf is more then shining with a very respectable ERA and WHIP combined with 79 strikeouts. One would think that this offense should only get better, so we can expect very solid fantasy numbers from Wolf and Millwood.

Vincente Padilla
After starting the season 3 – 1, Padilla has gone 1 – 6 with one No-Decision. His numbers are not bad: Teams are only batting .235 against him, and he does have 53 k’s to 26 walks. However, over those first 4 games, he had 26 k’s to 3 base on balls, since then, giving up 23 walks, and only striking out 27. He may continue to be a back of a fantasy rotation starter, or a spot starter off of your bench.

Brett Myers
He’s showing why many touted him as a fantasy sleeper this season thus far. Teams are still only batting .185 against him, and he has only given up 6 home runs in 75+ innings. This guy should not be available in your league, and if he happens to be sitting on your free agent wire, snag him fast. He’s worth a second look in keeper leagues as well.

Brandon Duckworth
28 K’s in only 38 innings with a 3 –1 record should get you excited about this guy. However, a 1.58 WHIP with a 5.21 ERA and a .250 batting average against almost makes you want to bang your head against a wall. The bright side: opponents’ batting average has dropped from .288 6 starts ago. The down side: His ERA and WHIP are closer to last year’s full season of 5.41 and 1.45 then 2 seasons ago of 3.52 and 1.25. Given the right match up, he is worth a look; however, he is not ready to contribute on a consistent basis. He still hasn’t shaken that sleeper status though…

Jose Mesa
Mesa has 15 saves. Unfortunately, he has a 1.71 WHIP and a 5.63 ERA with opponents batting .259 against him. Couple that with only 15 k’s in 24 innings and 12 walks, and he leaves a lot to be desired. Mesa has always been hittable with a career .271 batting average from his opponents; however, his numbers look like that of a washed up closer. Keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn’t miss out on any save opportunities, and he should still top 35 saves at the expense of your WHIP and ERA.
